Attend a Pilates Class
This popular class incorporates core strengthening exercises coupled with breathing techniques that allow for a stronger and more functional body. Equipment is used to vary the exercises and intensities. All levels welcome! Check out the calendar here!
Jason Hirata: SUVAIR Exhibition
The Department of Art and Art History is pleased to announce the selection of Jason Hirata as the 2014 Seattle University Artist in Residence (SUVAIR). Hirata recieved his BFA from the University of Washington in 2009. His shifting, situation-specific practice has taken numerous forms: drawing, creating, performing, instructional happenings, baking, building sculptural camera stabilization systems in optimized white space, producing commercial acrylic paintings on canvas and constructing spoken allegory for radio broadcast.
MLK interactive event
Join the OMA Staff and MLK Jr. Celebration planning committee for an interactive event leading up to the celebration that evening! There will be music, a photo booth, and space to reflect on what you would like to see changed on the SU campus.
Black Lives Matter: MLK Celebration
Seattle University Office of Multicultural Affairs invites you to our Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. This year we have decided to center our program on #BlackLivesMatter. We will create a living room conversation amongst local black scholars, activists, artists, & students. Ticket reservations highly recommended.
Precious Knowledge: A Racial Justice Film and Talkback
Precious Knowledge portrays one of the final years of the highly successful but controversial Mexican American Studies Program at Tucson High School. The program was a national model of educational success, with 93 percent of its enrolled students graduating from high school and 85 percent going on to attend college, bucking a statewide trend that saw only 48 percent of Latino students graduating at all. The program taught Mexican and American history, as well as Central and South American literature and culture. Tickets are free and can be purchased online.
Layers on Layers on Layers
Have you ever wondered what to wear when going out into the wilderness? How many layers you should wear and of what? This Outdoor Skills Session will go over the basics of layering that any outdoor enthusiast should know before embarking on an adventure. Participants attending will understand & demonstrate: How to appropriately incorporate the “layering system” in their attire for outdoor activities; Usage of key knowledge nuggets about materials for current or future gear.
Presentation of Del Otro Lado: Literacy and Migration Across the U.S.-Mexico Border by Susan Meyers
In Del Otro Lado: Literacy and Migration across the U.S.-Mexico Border, Meyers draws on her yearlong ethnographic study in Mexico and the United States to analyze the literacy practices of Mexican-origin students on both sides of the border. Revealing the foundations and policies that have shaped the literacy practices of this population, Meyers raises important questions about the obligation of the United States to educate migrant pupils, as well as about those students educational struggles and ways in which these difficulties can be overcome. This transnational study is essential reading for scholars, students, educators and lawmakers interested in shaping the future of educational policy.

SEAC Film Screening: Dear White People
A social satire that follows the stories of four black students at an Ivy League college where controversy breaks out over a popular but offensive black-face party thrown by white students. With tongue planted firmly in cheek, the film explores racial identity in acutely-not-post-racial America while weaving a universal story of forging one's unique path in the world.
