Bobcat Bulletin
Week of February 8th
From the Desk of Mrs. Schmid
Hello Bobcat Families,
It may be cold but the sun is shining! I hope this finds you staying warm on this chilly February Super Sunday!
With some creative pivoting on Mrs. Schmalandt's part, we have our safety patrol 5th grade leaders back in action! Thank you to our 5th grade leaders and coordinator Mrs. Schmalandt who made it all possible! Little pieces of normal are coming back to the great traditions of Brookdale, and it feels great! Now when you hear the bell, it is our great 5th graders behind the ring!
This week we successfully completed our winter universal benchmarking for all students K-5. A huge thank you to all stakeholders who made this possible, especially our support team and our coordinator of it all, our interventionist Mrs. Bramstedt. We overcame the barrier of assessing our remote students through Zoom and now have data on all of our students to support in making instructional decisions. Thank you for ensuring your child was in a place where he/she could show all their best skills! Winter interventions (EL, Talent Development, Reading Improvement and Math Improvement) will begin on 2/10. Stay tuned for the date when assessment results will be posted in ParentVUE.
We are looking forward to celebrating friendship this week and ending the week with our Friendship celebration! Thank you in advance to our PTA Classroom Coordinators and Mrs. Beth Lynn Norton for making this possible! Is your child remote? See the pick-up times below to ensure your child receives his/her supplies to participate in the fun!
We have our Parent Teacher Conferences coming up at the end of the month. Spring conferences are based on teacher or parent request. Teachers will be reaching out by February 12th if they are requesting a conference.
Respectfully,
Keeley Schmid
Principal

Yearbook/School Portraits
Never fear, our amazing PTA is here with a backup plan just in case! Thank you to chairperson Ms. Annie Nell for all her creative thinking and problem solving to ensure the yearbook still remains an important treasure in an unprecedented year! Please see the information below:
WE NEED YOUR YEARBOOK PORTAITS!
At this time, we are unsure if HR Imaging will be allowed on campus to take portraits this year. As the yearbook committee moves forward to create a yearbook, we are asking ALL parents to please send in a photo of their student(s). Please see the linked flyer to see how easy this can be done and some helpful tips on how to take a great picture. Any questions, please email brookdaleyearbook@gmail.com
Picture Ideas!
- First Day of School – Doesn’t matter how many first days we have had, send them all.
- Facemask Fashion – Show off your style! Have your student wear their favorite mask, snap a pic and email it to us.
- Pets at “School” – Have a new friend in class, show us your learning buddy.
Send us all or one pictures at brookdaleyearbook@gmail.com

Calling All Brainiacs!
Brookdale Brainiacs is an annual tradition of STEAM-inspired projects where the creators are our very own students! Typically they work on these optional projects for the first two weeks of February, then bring them to school for an open house exhibit that we all get to enjoy. This year, we’re doing things a little differently. Students are encouraged to show off a STEAM project that they made at home using Flipgrid. They can tell us all about their passion project in their recorded video – is it an art or writing project? A science experiment? Custom LEGO build? Machine or invention? Cardboard creation? Research poster? We want to see it! Bonus: your student’s project COULD get shared during morning announcements during the week of February 15-19! Need inspiration? Here’s a look at what some past projects have looked like. Share your Brainiacs project here: https://flipgrid.com/happ3229
