Happening this week...


We now have our first three weeks under our belt and progress reports will soon be ready. Please continue to check Skyward for grades and schedule tutoring with teachers to aid in the mastery of the course material. Many teachers have tutoring times posted below. If you don’t see your teacher’s time posted, please contact them.


Yearbook pictures will be taken this Friday, September 15. Remember to arrive at school in dress code with your best smile!

Pre-AP Science ~ Mrs. Sanchez and Ms. Marek

We are really getting rolling this week and diving headfirst into experimental design. Our 6th grade scientists are collaborating to design and propose student spaceflight experiments. The culmination of all their hard work will take place at BISD Space Night on Nov. 14th from 6-7 p.m. at CHS so start marking your calendars. We hope to you can attend to see how hard your scientist has been working.

Accelerated Science ~ Mrs. Irons


This week we will:

  • Continue our first unit "Cutting Off Texas"

  • Develop and critique research questions, research need-to-knows pertaining to our unit

  • Focus TEK 8.11A: Organism relationships in food webs such as predator-prey, producer-consumer, and parasite-host

  • Owl Pellet Lab Investigation

  • 8.11A Check (formative) Friday, September 15

  • Project Workday September 15, bring supplies if necessary

We will be wrapping up our We’re Melting unit this week. Monday is the day that everyone has been waiting for!!! We finally get to make ice cream!


The unit 1 test will be on Friday, September 15th. The test will cover multiplying and dividing fractions and decimals. Students will also need to apply the steps needed in order to simplify their answers and be able to convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions.

This week we will be wrapping up our unit over Rational Numbers. We will be creating an ice cream recipe on Monday, making the ice cream on Tuesday, reviewing over Unit 1 on Wednesday and Thursday and testing on Friday, September 15th.

This week students will continue to practice the RACE method as we analyze non-fiction texts in close reading workshop. Students can expect to have a Test Wednesday, September 13, on RACE and correct usage of its, it’s, your, and your’re. We are still researching and participating in workshops on the concept of geography’s influence on culture.

Global Business and Professional Communication ~ Ms. Tedford and Ms. Owen

This week will will be beginning our Presentation Skills Unit. We will be exploring what it looks like to have a growth mindset by looking at examples of people throughout history who took risks and persevered through life challenges. By the end of the week, students will be choose a topic for a presentation about a famous individual who demonstrated a growth mindset, which they will be putting together for the next several weeks.
