Benchmarking Window Opens
Please do not forget the importance of progress monitoring in between benchmarking windows. Progress monitoring plays a vital role in determining student needs and areas of growth. Numerous studies have shown the importance progress monitoring plays in student success.
"Research has demonstrated that when teachers use student progress monitoring, students learn more, teacher decision making improves, and students become more aware of their own performance. A significant body of research conducted over the past 30 years has shown this method to be a reliable and valid predictor of subsequent performance on a variety of outcome measures, and thus useful for a wide range of instructional decisions (Deno, 2003; Fuchs, Deno, & Mirkin, 1984; Good & Jefferson, 1998)."

Please ensure that you are adequately progress monitoring your students. A review of mClass shows that our school is not up-to-date with progress monitoring, especially on our red and yellow students.

The Leader in Me
Chad Smith from the Covey Institute will be with us in the afternoon on January 20 to kick off our venture into The Leader in Me.
We will begin our book study in February. Reading assignments will begin to be posted in the Faculty Focus. We will cover chapters 1-3 on the February 24 Early Release Day. Please note that all staff members will be required to attend ERPD in February, March and April.
Driving Instruction
Sylvia Segura Pirtle, PhD, and Ed Tobia, EdD write, "Only when teachers reflect on their instructional practice, consider the effect instruction
has on students, and implement insights gained from a meeting to improve their teaching
performance, can this process be called a professional learning community."
