Basketball

Early December 1891, basketball was created because of a gym teacher who was trying to keep his class active on a rainy day. He wrote the rules out and nailed a peach basket onto a 10 foot elevated track. Since the bottom of the peach basket did not allow the ball to go through, he made an opening so that the ball could be retrieved through the basket. In 1949 basketball had become a major college sport and also a growth in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Basketball is still played to this day and is one of the most popular sports in the United States.
