A note from the team
What a fun field day we had today! Everyone had a great time and the cool water felt good on such a hot day! This week we are working on our service learning project. We will be collecting gently used school supplies to send over to Haiti for schools there to use. We have a guest speaker, Emily Parker, grandmother to one of our 5th graders, is coming on Tuesday to tell us about her organization and their work in Haiti and to let us know what we can do to help.
This Friday is our in school field trip where we will be making brass rubbings from authentic replicas from medieval and renaissance times in England.
Math
This week in all math classes, we will be working on a math project that will relate the concepts that we have learned this year to our aspirations for our futures. Even though SOLs have been completed, students will be able to see how math plays a role in their everyday lives, especially with what they want to be when they grow up.
Language Arts
In Language Arts this week, we are hard at work on Reader’s Theaters. These are small plays that help students work on their fluency when reading.
There is no Word Study this week.
Science
In Science time this week, we are completing our GATP projects. The fifth graders have done a tremendous job with researching, synthesizing, and evaluating their work. This week, we will also begin our service learning project. We will be working with a school in Haiti and donating some of our gently used school supplies. We will be creating posters and publicizing our efforts for gathering supplies to the school.
