The Third Quarter Interim Report Period Has Come in 2023

Families should have received their 3rd Quarter Interim Reports or via Schoology and our staff is offering multiple support options for students to make sure they are doing their very best academically and have opportunities for extra help and support:

  • Our new Saturday School Academic Recovery Program provides small group and individual support for students that can benefit from some additional assistance from a certified teacher on Saturdays from 8:00-11:00 am. Several students have commented that it helps to have individual help at the end of the week for any unlearned material.
  • Our daily after school program, Gettys U, continues to be offered daily from 3:05 to 5:00 pm for students that can attend daily. GettysU also has bus transportation.
  • Academic teachers are meeting with students every Wednesday during the student's exploratory classes as part of our Skills Recovery Program for additional support if needed. Encourage your child to do their very best in our Second Semester and let us know if they need extra support!

Mr. Gray Recognized as our December Teacher of the Month

Our Teacher of the Month was Mr. Gray, 7th grade Social Studies. Multiple 7th grade students chose Mr. Gray because of his work ethic, but also appreciate his commitment to building relationships with his students. Ms. Rodriguez also recognized Mr. Gray for his constant willingness to help, and for being a source of positivity on the 7th grade team.

Congratulations, Mr. Gray!

Pep Rally Celebrates Student Athletes

A number of student athletes were recognized at our pep rally. We appreciate all of the work of our sport teams and coaches in each of their successes this season. There were a number of celebrations and recognitions in other areas of our school. For student learning, we already have students exceeding their prior scores with the recent Winter MAP and recognition for students' work in Dreambox (Math software) and NewsELA (Literacy resource) that many of our Science and Social Studies teachers are implementing to support reading and literacy. We have more students than ever in extracurricular clubs: the Cast of Moana Jr coming in March, our History Club, the Game Club meets every Thursday and Momentum Bike Club that rides the Doodle Trail! We also recognized the award winning Robotics Club and Team 77240G for earning the Excellence Award, VEX Robotics highest award, for the second straight week in a row that qualifies them for state and national competition.

Character Counts at GMS as Students Awarded

Students showing the monthly character trait of integrity were recognized in December and students showing responsibility in January . Our collaborative efforts with Mrs. Pat Snider, our PTO and staff has recognized over the past four-months: 207 sixth graders, 174 seventh graders and 176 eighth graders giving us a total of 557 students. December's Students of the Month received their display item, a Dodge's certificate, and a candy cane treat from our PTO before leaving for the winter break. Student names were displayed in the cafeteria and in on our school's tv displays. List of award-winning students:

Join us for All Pro Dads!

All Pro Dad's is a partnership at GMS from an invitation to join with Crosswell Elementary and other Easley elementary schools who have had this group previously to extend the program to the middle school level. It is a program for the Dads and male guardians of our students. They are a group focused on bringing attention to the important role of fathers and other family topics. Dads can get a daily text of advice or encouragement and for one hour a month there is typically an early morning session that your child and father are invited to attend before school that features a speaker and breakfast. More information is available below and you can learn more about this at their website: https://www.allprodad.com/
