Deadlines for Orders to Arrive in Time for Winter Gift Giving is December 12.
Good morning!
In case you missed it ~ yesterday's KSD Spotlight highlighted update on our safety protocols. We continue to work hard to keep our NG kids and adults safe.
Please remind your student to pack an extra mask ~ we had a good number of masks to give out but that collection is dwindling! Thank you for your support!
Have a great week and please call or email if I can be of service!

2022 NG Yearbook plans are underway!
Important info about picture retakes: If your child participated in picture retakes, our photographer will assume you want the retake to be used as their portrait in the yearbook. When you receive your retakes and This is NOT the case, please contact Kate Smith (katepribyl@gmail.com)ASAP. Include your child's name, grade and teacher in the email.
Submitting pictures to be considered for the yearbook: If you have great candid photos of NG kids, you can share them on facebook using #northglendaleyearbook or email them to northglendaleyearbook@gmail.com. If emailing, please include teachers name and grade of children in the photos.
NG Sacks of Science Team
Sacks of Science: Each student should have received an experiment to do at home. Please return the completed worksheet to your teacher by Friday, December 17, 2021. We encourage students to share a picture of themselves completing the experiment and upload the photo to the following google form link: https://forms.gle/s7gDVsBwonHUkiha7 . Access requires a gmail account. Please put the student’s name and grade in the picture file name so we know who they are (example: 2021_12_08_ErinJearls_4th.jpg).
STEAMFest: The application deadline has been extended and is now due Friday, January 7, 2022. Science projects will be due February 16, 2022. Application required for upload consists of the Research Plan and Safety Form (kirkwoodschools.org/STEAMFest) and must be submitted through the student’s email. Research Plan, Safety Form, and directions to access the student’s email are linked here.
STEAMFest projects this year are virtual and can be submitted in PowerPoint or pdf form. We’ve confirmed pdf can be pictures of project tri-fold boards converted to pdf. If the student is more interested in completing a STEAMFest project in a more typical science fair manner with the trifold boards, this can done as an alternate to PowerPoint. We are hopeful to be able to display completed projects at North Glendale in the spring. See more details in the attached. Please reach out with questions or if you need help with logbook or trifold board display purchases (Erin Jearls, 573-247-2125).

Santa Lucia: December 13

Christmas: December 25
Christmas traditions around the world:
- Americans and the English typically celebrate with Christmas trees.
- Christmas falls in the summer for Australians who celebrate -- they typically go camping or on vacation during the holiday.
- Iceland celebrates with 13 different Santas, called the Yule Lads.
Kwanzaa: December 26-January 1, 2022
Kwanzaa was created by Dr. Karenga in 1966 and is based off of African first harvest traditions. The word Kwanzaa comes from the phrase “matunda ya kwanza” - which means first fruits in Swahili.
Celebrations include: singing, dancing, African drumming, storytelling, poetry reading and a large traditional meal.
Takes place over 7 nights. On each of the 7 nights, a child lights the Kinara and one of the 7 principles of African culture is discussed. A Karamu (big feast) is planned on the last night of Kwanzaa.

KINDERGARTEN 2022-2023!
We will begin enrolling kids for our 2022-2023 class or Kindergarten in January. This is a very important process as it is the foundation of our personnel decisions. We really need as accurate a number as early as possible. Want to get a head start or just know what info to collect for the process? See the Kindergarten registration page on the KSD website!
