A Note From Mrs. Mathe
As we begin this semester, I wanted to remind all of our families about the COVID screening that every family should be considering before school daily regarding their child's health (see below). We appreciate your diligence in reporting cases and the caution our families exhibited in the fall semester when their child(ren) did not feel well. Once again, thank you for helping protect our school year!
It is extremely important to let us know if your child has tested positive for COVID, or if your child has been exposed to a positive individual. To report this information, please contact our school nurse, Melissa Wiles at mawiles@conroeisd.net or by calling 936-709-1709.
Today our second grading period reports cards are being distributed. Our in-person learners will receive a paper copy of their report card. Remote learners in grades 1-4 will have access to their report card on Parent Access Center. Kindergarten remote learners and any 1st- 4th grader that does not have a PAC account will be mailed a paper copy of the report card.
If you have not registered for a PAC account, please go on and create an account for your child https://pac.conroeisd.net/ Once you create the account, it will remain the same as long as your child is enrolled in a Conroe ISD school.

Reminders
Car Rider Signs
Reminder: We dismiss students using a barcode system. If you do not have a car sign, or a screen shot of their student bar code, we will ask you to pull forward to show your ID before calling for your student. We ask that you have this information ready when pulling through the line.
2nd Grade CogAT Scores
Parents of 2nd grade students will receive a copy of their child's CogAT scores in the report card envelope today. This was the assessment all 2nd grade students took at the beginning of December. If you have any questions regarding these results, please contact our assistant principal, Sarah Radford at sradford@conroeisd.net.
Dreambox Information for at Home Use
You may have noticed on the Powell PTO Facebook that PTO funds purchase DreamBox Learning for all Powell students. This is a K-8 digital, rigorous, and highly adaptive math curriculum that students access to supplement school math instruction. DreamBox adjusts and creates a "just right" lesson for each student.
It is recommended that students should complete 5 lessons each week. Most of the students complete enough lessons at school to meet this recommendation. While DreamBox can be used at home, please keep in mind these tips.
Be okay with mistakes. As long as students complete lessons, DreamBox will be able to assess their comprehension and adapt.
Work independently. Helping a student through a lesson can progress them beyond their current abilities and lead to frustration.
Only use the virtual manipulatives. DreamBox lessons are designed for students to think through problems without the use of pencil and paper.
Use the help/hint button when needed.
Use headphones with the volume on.
Monitor time. 30 minutes a session is adequate. Students should not work longer than 30 minute sessions at home.
We hope you find the tips helpful! We love to see so many students excited about practicing their math skills!
