CURRICULUM CORNER-JUNE 2023
WE DID IT, TRIBE!
There are so many things that could be mentioned in this last Curriculum Corner publication of the 2022-23 school year.
Rather than highlighting each and every fabulous accomplishment, I would like to simply express the pride I feel for having the privilege of archiving our journey and sometimes being a part of them. The faculty, staff and students here at South have made me laugh, cry, smile and think.
We are so grateful to have been a part of each students’ journey and can’t wait to continue to share our amazing experiences at South with our returning students! And to our graduating seniors…have an amazing ride on your next adventure. Once an Indian, always an Indian!

National Immigrant Heritage Celebration
We wanted to share our next event in celebration of National Immigrant Heritage Month on June 3, from 12pm-4pm. We will host a number of healthcare providers, OCC, Georgian Court, various police departments, and the Prosecutor's Office to provide accurate information for families facing unique circumstances. It will be an opportunity for families to learn about programs and services that support children, youth and their families.
There are a few needs we have that we'd like to see if it is possible for the district to help us with:
- Many of our food pantry participants are from Toms River and attend Toms River Schools. Would it be possible to have parent liaisons or outreach coordinator attend our event and host an information table regarding Toms River Schools. It would be helpful to us since many newcomers have questions regarding school registration, sports, and other questions. We've assisted parents by printing out forms and connecting them with registration. Since we have healthcare providers on site assisting with vaccines and coordinating physicals for new registrants, it would help to have a district rep answer specific questions.
- PROMOTING THE EVENT - We would also like to ask for your approval to drop off flyers to elementary schools on May 30 and for the flyer to be sent out virtually and included in the weekly Principal's newsletters.
- VOLUNTEERS - We are in dire need of volunteers - ADULTS or STUDENTS. It's a great opportunity for students to earn volunteer hours. Opportunities to serve on June 3 are vast and we certainly need the help. Is there a person I can connect with in Guidance to share the volunteer link or QR below. Our Youth Ambassadors are working on developing a volunteer program for our food pantry. The number of families has tripled in the past two months, and we expect this growth to continue. We are at a point of not being able to sustain the pantry due to limited volunteers. Our youth are determined to keep the doors to our pantry opened four days a week.
