Upcoming Student Activities (volunteers may be needed)
Toro Pride LGBTQ+ Celebration
To celebrate our LGBTQ+ students and their allies, Montera is holding its first Pride celebration on Thursday, September 15th, from 2:20-3:30. Organizations including Covenant House, The Oakland LGBTQ Center, East Bay Queer Arts Center, The Pacific Center, and UC Berkeley's Bear Closet will be joining us to educate students on their programs that support LGBTQ+-identified youth. We are seeking parent volunteers to assist with set-up/decorating and activities such as face painting during the event.
Please reach out to Mx. J at tate.jawdat@ousd.org if you can help make our Pride celebration a success.
Montera Student Council
This month, Montera is launching a student council! The goals of the student council are to promote school spirit, serve the school community, model good citizenship, impact decisions affecting school issues, and maintain a positive school climate. Here are some important dates:
- Deadline for applications: Thursday, September 15th
- Bootcamp: Tuesday, September 20th & Thursday, September 22nd
- Post Campaign Posters: starting Wednesday, September 21st
- Filmed Speeches Due: Friday, September 30th
- Polls Open: Tuesday, October 4th
- Poster Removal: Wednesday October 5th
- Positions Announced: Friday, October 7th

Oakland’s own professional soccer team, the Oakland Roots, is excited to host Back to School Night at Laney College Stadium. The Roots will be taking on the New York Red Bulls II, on Saturday, September 17th at 7 pm. Celebrating local schools from the Bay Area, the evening will feature a pre-game parade with the students and a halftime ceremony honoring the teachers. Use this link to purchase specially priced tickets for Oakland Roots vs New York. Montera Middle School will receive 15% back for every ticket sold.

Registration and clearance are required to volunteer onsite at Oakland public schools. Go to https://www.oaklandedfund.org/programs/volunteer/parent-volunteers to complete the registration. You will receive an immediate email with clearance options and instructions from osv@oaklandedfund.org.

P.E. Uniforms Update
PE uniforms that were ordered by August 4th should have been received now by your child in their PE class. We know that there are outstanding orders and some students have not received theirs. The PE teachers are aware and will not dock points off for not having it yet. Please read the below to answer your frequently asked questions.
Still need a uniform or want additional items?
PE Uniforms are still available! You can order uniforms and any additional items any time by visiting the Montera website Physical Education page here. Remember to click through to the PayPal site to pay for your items! Orders will be filled within a week of receiving the form and will be available in PE class.
Still waiting for your uniform that you already ordered and paid for before Aug 4th?
If you have not received your uniform, there was likely a glitch in the form or payment. Please send an email to gear@monterapto.com with the name of your student, what they ordered, and the name of the person who made the PayPal payment and I will get back to you ASAP. Once I receive this information I will fulfill your order and it will be available in the PE office for pick up by your child within a week of receipt of your information.
Still waiting for your uniform that you ordered after Aug 4th?
Orders made after the 4th will be available in PE class within a week of ordering.
Want to return or exchange items you received?
Please fill out this form. The PE gear coordinator will package the item(s) you want and make them available in the PE office within a week of receiving this information. For any items your student doesn't want/ need, there will be a box in the PE office marked RETURNS. Please have your student place unneeded items there and fill out the form on the clipboard next to the RETURN box.

- Latex free band-aids (NOT with antibiotic medication in it) in assorted sizes. EVERY teacher needs at least one box and the front office and nurse's office also need a supply.
- Tweezers for splinters (not the plastic ones)
- Ice packs for PE and front office
- Vomit bucket for front office and pick up waiting area
Feminine supplies
- Cleansing wipes
- Assorted pads
- Tampons
- Assorted sizes back-up underwear (S/M/L/full-figured)
