GES Grey Wolf Gazette
September 24, 2021
Happy Friday!
Dear Greenfield Families and Friends,
What a busy week of learning here at GES! Students and teachers are settling into routines and are comfortable and happy being here together. Students in grades 1-4 will be taking the Fall NWEA Measures Academic Progress test in reading and math over the next few weeks. These are benchmark assessments, given every fall, winter and spring that help us identify student strengths and needs. The data provides us with a snapshot of student growth over time.
Tomorrow is Oak Park Clean-Up Day! Come join the fun from 10:00-2:00pm. See the flyer below for more details.
GES will be collecting non-perishable canned food items next week to help support ConVal's efforts for the NH Tackles Hunger Food Drive. While their homecoming game had to be canceled, they are still collecting food to support this important program that helps local families in need. Please help us by sending in non-perishable canned food items next week. We hope to fill the collection box to overflowing!
In case you missed the news, morning snack/breakfast and lunch are free for all ConVal students this year, however if your child gets only milk at either meal there is a charge of $0.50. Please be sure to add money to your child's lunch account to cover the cost of milk if needed.
You can find the morning snack and lunch menus here:
https://conval.linqnutrition.com/Menus.aspx- choose the elementary menu on the right side of the page.
The Grey Wolf Gazette is now available on our website under the "What's Happening" button. You will be able to find previous editions by clicking on the View All News button. No more scrolling through your email to find the newsletter.
Have a wonderful weekend!

The ConVal School District has news blog to serve as a hub for the latest updates, information and news about the district’s schools, students, faculty, events and accomplishments.
The blog, ConValNews.com is integrated into the schools and District’s Facebook and Twitter accounts and will automatically broadcast news blog content onto these platforms, connecting directly with the district community.
With a clean, user-friendly and mobile responsive layout, the news blog allows for easy navigation throughout. It can be accessed on computers, cell phones and tablets. Community members can subscribe and be notified by email when new posts are published.
Parents/guardians, students, staff, and community members should still utilize the district’s main website, Convalsd.net, to access the District-wide calendar of events, contact information, school committee meeting notices and minutes, important documents and notices and to view general information about the district and its schools.
ConVal School Board Community Forum
The ConVal School Board, working with the ConVal Administration, is pleased to announce its first ever Community Forum.
The ‘public comment’ periods at the beginning and end of the School Board meetings have been a source of frustration for some in the community. Board meetings are designed to conduct the business of the District and therefore there is limited time for meaningful dialogue between the public and the Board.
We have listened to our community and in our ongoing effort for full transparency we have structured this Community Forum to allow for discussion on community selected topics with questions to and answers from the school board and administration. The Board and Administration look forward to hearing from our nine communities in a constructive and flexible manner.
Please mark your calendars for Thursday, September 30 at 7:00 PM to attend our first Community Forum at the Lucy Hurlin Theatre located at the ConVal High school.
More information will follow with details about the forum, and how to participate in a survey to determine forum topics. We look forward to strengthening our partnership with our communities with this opportunity for a more open dialogue.
News from Mr. Shultz's Art Studio
Hello GES Families,
It was wonderful to be back in Greenfield for the last couple of weeks. Your students and I had a great time exploring our creativity through drawing and coloring. This week, GES Kindergarteners and First Graders worked hard on drawings of fall trees and patterned pumpkins. Second graders learned how to draw people, and used their skills to create a picture of themselves doing their favorite activity. The Third and fourth graders headed outside to draw a tree from observation and learned how to add shading to their work. At the end of week two they worked on creating their own mandalas. Needless to say, we learned a lot and had so much fun creating art together. Thanks for a great two weeks and we'll see you again in December.

Meals to Remain Free For ConVal Students This Year!
Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders is pleased to announce that the United States Department of Agriculture will continue to offer free breakfasts and lunches to all ConVal students through the end of the 2021-22 school year.
“We are so happy to be able to offer this resource to all of our students for another year,” said Superintendent Rizzo Saunders. “Even though meals will be available to students regardless of qualification status, I cannot stress enough how important it is for parents to fill out an application. Doing so allows families to determine if they are eligible for a number of other significant benefits.”
Families that complete an application will have the opportunity to learn about their potential eligibility for other benefits, including discounted or waived academic testing and college application fees, reduced cost broadband internet access and the pandemic EBT program.
Data from the program is also used to determine the amount of funding that is provided to the district for programs, such as Title I and e-rate reimbursement, which is used to fund technology. Additionally, the data is used by other federal and private grant foundations to award funding to the district, as well as towns within the district.
Only one application should be completed per household.
For more information about the program, please email Lori Schmidt at lschmidt@conval.edu
Questions regarding dietary concerns or meals should be directed to Katelyn Moore at conval@freshpickscafe.com.
