Kindergarten
May 17th
Math
This week in math we wrapped up our unit on numbers 0-20. We also explored some counting concepts such as counting by 10s or counting using larger numbers. These concepts were challenging for many of the students as we have not done a lot of work with these larger numbers previous to this week. They did an excellent job applying what they know about numbers 1-10 to help them!
Reading
This week in reading we continued to read many classic story books such as Mo Willem's Pidgeon books or the Recess Queen. We are still practicing identifying character and setting, as well as diving deeper into comprehension of story elements. We are preparing for our upcoming character day which you will receive information about shortly.
Cedarhurst Service Trip
This past Wednesday the students had the opportunity to visit Cedarhurst Senior Living once again. This time we performed several songs for the residents. They loved getting to hear and see the kindergartners, maybe even more than we loved performing for them! The students also created a special rainbow craft for the residents to keep. They did a wonderful job bringing some cheer to Cedarhurst and we are very proud!
Brookfield Zoo Trip
Next Friday, the 24th, we are taking our much anticipated zoo field trip. Please remember to pack a SACK lunch for your child that day (everything must be disposable, no spoons or Tupperware that needs to be carried the remainder of the day). With our crazy weather please also check to make sure your child is dressed appropriately for that day! It could be 80 degrees and sunny or 50 degrees and drizzling.
Registration
Please remember to register your student for next school year. Registration is open via Skyward. We ask that you register as soon as you are able to help us prepare for the upcoming school year! If you are not returning next year, please let the office know so they can prepare files and transfer materials.
ABC Countdown
Next week we are continuing our ABC countdown to the end of the year:
Monday-Wear RED!
Tuesday-Silly Socks
Wednesday-Write Thank you notes
Thursday-USA day (wear red, white, or blue)
iReady Spring Assessment
This week we continued our spring benchmark assessment. The students will be assessed on both reading and math using the same iReady program we used in the fall and winter. Their scores will go home with them at the end of the year. They are doing a great job so far and working hard to stay focused!
