AHS Digital Citizenship Resources
Watch the video below to see how we can use #ameshighpride to promote those great things that make us proud to be at Ames High. We can use this to create a positive digital footprint for ourselves and our school/community.
Why We Need to Learn!
Despite what many may say, there is no such thing as a digital native. As learners today you have more access to technology than ever before but there is a lot to learn about how we can use that technology to learn and live in a positive way. What you post and create online (your digital footprint) can have a permanent effect on your lives and there is no delete button once it is online. Your privacy is something that can be lost so quickly and becoming a victim to cyberbullying happens just as fast. We need to make sure we learn now how to live and learn in a digital world so that we create a positive impact for our futures.
Be a Digital Citizen
Do you know your privacy settings on your social media sites? Do you know who can see what you post or what you are doing online? How easy would it be for a complete stranger to find out your schedule, where you are, what you do and what you like? How easily could someone stalk you just by what you post online?
WHAT DOES YOUR DIGITAL FOOTPRINT SAY ABOUT YOU? HOW DO YOU AFFECT THE DIGITAL FOOTPRINT OF OTHERS, INCLUDING YOUR FRIENDS?
QUESTIONS TO ASK BEFORE YOU POST
- Would my parents/grandparents/siblings/friends be proud of what I am posting?
- How could this affect my future employment or ability to get into college?
- Would I say this to someone in person?
- How does this reflect who I am as a person?
HOW CAN YOU CREATE A DIGITAL FOOTPRINT THAT WILL HELP YOU IN THE FUTURE?
Use #ameshighpride in your Tweets and other posts to share out the positive things you see and do at Ames High that you are proud of. Share what you create, what you do and what you see.
