Keeping you Informed

5forALL Focus

5forALL has not gone away and it is still a district initiative that we will focus on throughout the year. I will highlight a technique or strategy that is part of 5forALL each week.

This week I would like the focus to be on Establishing Expectations for Listening, attached are some ideas on how to establish expectations for listening.

Site Visit- On Wednesday Middle School Directory and former YLMS Teacher Keith Carmona will be on campus around 10:30 am. We will visit a few classrooms while he is here. If you have something you would like to show off let me know.

Book Fair- This week is our book fair in the Library. If you would like your classes to visit the library during the book fair please work with Chris Lawyer about times that are available.

6th Grade Dance- Please remind your 6th graders that there is a dance after school on Thursday and there will not be Homework Club. They must have an ASB sticker on their ID card to get into the dance. Wednesday will be the last day to purchase ASB or ID cards.

Great ShakeOut- On Thursday we will participate in the Great ShakeOut which will occur at 10:17 am (2nd Period). Jackie will send out more information about the drill on Thursday. Below is a video series by the Great Shakout on Earthquake safety.

Staff Meeting (Please Read)- For our next staff meeting I would like to take time to examine Rigor in our activities that we do in our classes. For the 10/16 Staff Meeting, I would like you to bring an example of a Costa's Level of Thinking 1, 2 and 3 activity that you do in your class (all three levels). We will take time to break into groups of various subject areas to discuss the various lessons that you do and look at the rigor of the activity and why it is important (the use of all three levels is necessary). This gives us time to discuss activities with others that we don't normally get time to work with and hopefully learn from each other. I just want to give everyone time to collect the activities. Attached is Costa's Level's of Thinking.

The Den- A one-stop-shop for YLMS resources for staff.
