District Reopening Information/Plan is Available on the Website
After receiving the New York State Department of Health and New York State Education Department’s guidance document earlier this month, the West Genesee Central School District started working to adopt the model and create our own Reopening Plan.
West Genesee formed a COVID-19 Task Force early this year which has been exploring options for the safe reopening of our schools. The District has also been working with a regional group of school districts through OCM BOCES to share information and best practices. Based on the committee’s recommendations and the regional group’s work, in accordance with the new state guidelines, West Genesee submitted an initial plan to New York State by the July 31 deadline. Below is information concerning the reopening of schools.
- West Genesee District Reopening Plan
- Letter from Supt. Bills-Reopening Plan/Selection of Options
- West Genesee Special Education Plan for Returning to School
- West Genesee Student Days During In-Person / Hybrid Learning

IMPORTANT REMINDER About Selection of Options for Students through Schooltool
In the West Genesee reopening plan, parents have the option of selecting in-person/hybrid learning or remote learning.
An additional critical piece of information we need is whether or not you may be able to transport your child(ren).
Please follow this link and login to Schooltool (https://wg.schooltool.cnyric.org/schooltoolweb/) to let us know your decisions for each of your children. (Further instructions on submitting the survey is available via video at the top of the Schooltool homepage.)
It is imperative that we receive these commitments back no later than August 10, 2020.
Also, if you do not remember your Schooltool ID and/or Password, please click on "New User or Forgot Password" link" in Schooltool. You can also contact the Central Registrar at centralregistrar@westgenesee.org or (315) 487-4683 for assistance with Schooltool. Just a reminder... when using a mobile device to please select “view full site” as shown in the image with this article.

Transitioned to a New Communication System
As part of the transition, we will be keeping the Mobile App from Blackboard for the upcoming year. The calendars, news, directory and other current information will continue to feed to the mobile app.
The first week of July we conducted testing on the email feature by sending emails from both the new system and the previous system. This helped us verify that information from the new system is not going to your spam/junk folders.
Last week we implemented the texting feature of the SchoolMessenger system. If you did not receive a SMS/text and would like to going forward, please email your SMS/text information to publications@westgenesee.org.
The phone/robo call feature will be tested and implemented prior to the start of school, and we will send more information when we are ready to test the call feature.
Please be on the lookout for more information as we roll out the new system and you can send any questions about the transition to publications@westgenesee.org.
Fall Sports Update
Due to COVID-19, NYSPHSAA has delayed the start of all Fall 2020 Athletic Seasons until at least September 21, 2020. Fall 2020 Sign ups will now begin on August 24, 2020. Signing up does not ensure that there will be a sports season to participate in. We are all hopeful that this pandemic will come to an end in the near future but the safety of our student athletes, coaches, staff and fans are our number 1 priority. We will follow all New York State requirements and policies put in place by the Governor and NYSED.
A parent/guardian can register by clicking on this link: https://www.familyid.com/west- genesee-athletic-department.
“Wildcat” Marching Band Update
If allowed, Marching Band will most likely be rehearsing Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights from 6:00-8:00 p.m., starting on Tuesday, September 22, 2020.

West Genesee is Conducting a Facilities Study
The District’s Strategic Planning Team has begun working with our consultants to review many facets of the District’s operations. The purpose of the study is to evaluate this essential question:
“How can the District maintain and enhance the educational opportunities for West Genesee students in its tradition of excellence while continuing to ensure efficient and effective utilization of staff and facilities as well as fiscal responsibility for the District’s taxpayers?”
The team has begun meeting monthly and the meetings are open to the public. There is an opportunity for the public to ask questions at the end of each meeting.
Please visit our Facilities Study website on the Strategic Planning webpage. for meeting dates, agendas, meeting notes, and links to livestreams (if we are required to meet digitally).
