Cold Weather and Hot Cocoa- Winter is here!
Temperatures are dropping today and giving us a decent taste of winter weather! Well, our teachers from Nebraska might disagree with that, but for Texas the 50's are close enough! Please help students remember to take coats, jackets, hats, gloves, and scarves home each day so they can wear them in the morning coming back!
We also have two full trashcans of winter clothing in the cafeteria lost and found, from items left all over the building, so this could be a place to start if things have been lost. If you have a student without a jacket or coat, please talk to Velita Harris, our CIS representative, and she will definitely help get needed items.
Upcoming Events!
Lots of upcoming events! Check out the school calendar in the office or the common! This week we have DCA's, Ugly Sweater making (today), Lunch Bunch, and the Christmas Party on Friday! Next week is just as busy, so make sure you read and know what's going on!
12 Days of Christmas is posted on Lisa's door and in your email, so check out what's coming up over the next week! Fun stuff happening every day!
Don't give up! And Support your Teammates and Students :)
This time of year can be tough- everyone is running a bit on empty, and there are many assessments and expectations this time of year as well, which makes it more difficult. Please be there for one another, and be there for students. We don't always know what home situations look like, and the holidays can often be a time of stress rather than a time of happiness for our students, which can increase behaviors as well.
THINK about: HALT: are you or your students hungry, angry, lonely, or tired? These are often the causes for stressed out or poor behaviors, and can be addressed to stop behaviors from the start.
If there is anything we can do to support YOU OR YOUR STUDENTS, administration, content, counselors, CIS- please let us know! Below is one of the most inspirational videos for not giving up I have seen- please watch and feel free to share with your older students.
Alief Foundation Innovative Grant Applications are ready!
Interested in some free money to do something innovative in your classroom? The Alief Education Foundation is giving away around $40,ooo this year for classroom grants! It's pretty simple to apply, and the application and timeline is in the link below! If you need help, there are lots of us who have written grants before, just ask! Free money is free money, and when it comes to education, that doesn't happen all the time!
With our holiday break coming up, this could be something you could write up while sitting in front of the tv watching those sappy Hallmark Christmas movies (yes, I know, some of you think they are the BEST thing on tv all year!). I would love to look over your grants when we get back from winter break, so get to thinking about what you might like to add to your classroom! STEM, literacy, action-based movement, outside-the-box thinking, leadership and character education, music, arts- all have been funding in past years, so start shopping!
