Art in the Language Arts Classroom

Visualizing and Illustration

When reading stories in language Arts, we are often introduced to unfamiliar settings or a setting is described but not seen. Art can help us to visualize the settings and characters we are reading about or creating for our own stories. Below is a collection of resources to help with visualizing and illustrating.

Famous Illustators and Artists

This year in 3rd grade we will study several illustrators and authors. We can videos and interviews to learn more. Below is a selection of videos that could be shared. Virtual Field Trip

Did you know you can take a field trip without leaving your seat? We can take virtual field trips through different places and museums to view art. This can help to better understand a time period of a story or see actual works of art mentioned in a story. We can also be introduced to famous works of art and then write a descriptive story about the artwork or a fictional story telling a story about the artwork. Below are links to online museums and virtual field trips and a video exploring the MET.

Physical Education in the Language Arts Classoom

Movement and Dance

In our cyber school, we will watch videos of different movements such as stretching, dancing, or exercising. You will then complete the movements yourself and either record yourself or write a a reflection. Writing a self reflection on what was difficult or easy and what you learned about their bodies and movements would help strengthen your writing and reflection skills. Below are selected links and videos resources that we will use this year.
