Renewable resources

Renewable resources are never ending supplies of energy this means they will not run out. Renewable resources don't cause pollution or climate change which affects plants, animals and people.

Unlike non renewable resources renewable resources aren't harmful to the earth. Also we won't run out of renewable resources.

What is it? How does it work?

Geothermal energy is heat that comes from inside the earth. Geothermal energy can be used for heating homes and cooking. Geothermal energy is created using heat from the earth.

Workers drill a hole deep in the ground and turn the cold water underground into hot water.

Advantages of Geothermal energy

Large geothermal power plants can power entire cities. Also the cost of geothermal power plants are very low. Geothermal power plants don't occupy too much space and this helps in protecting natural environments.

Geothermal energy is non polluting and there is no wastage or by products. Also geothermal energy is a renewable resource so we will not run out of geothermal energy.

Disadvantages of geothermal energy

Along with advantages geothermal energy also has disadvantages. Some geothermal power stations may release some harmful and poisonous gases that can escape through the holes drilled during construction.

The availability of geothermal energy that is capable of feeding geothermal power stations is very limited. Also only a few cities have the potential of geothermal energy power plants.
