A Letter from Your Blue Valley North Administrators

    Mustang Community,

As we begin the month of November, we want to remind you of an opportunity to share feedback regarding BV schools and the district at large. The WE Support Survey is designed to inform schools and districts about expectations and perceptions the community has about student learning. This perceptual, anonymous survey contains about 50 questions, all rated on a Likert scale, and will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. The results will help us to better understand our community’s perceptions of the school experience and their expectations of our school.

The We Support Survey is structured around three main constructs:

    • Rigor
    • Relevance
    • Relationships

A couple of things to keep in mind:

    • The WE Support Survey takes 10-15 minutes to complete.
    • Your responses are anonymous, so please answer all questions honestly.
    • Participation in the survey is voluntary; you can opt-out at any time.
    • Please try to provide your perceptions and expectations of the school or district overall.
    • Your input is important to us and highly valued.
    • Thank you for your time and participation.

To access the WE Support Survey, follow these steps:

    1. Go to
    2. Enter the case sensitive password (copy > paste works best): CBV7BVNH
    3. When all questions have been answered, click Submit for your responses to be recorded.

Thank you in advance for completing this survey by November 15, 2021. The insight you provide will be valuable in our ongoing efforts to improve our learning environment for all.

    Kudos and Celebrations (new)

    Volleyball Team Takes State!

Congratulations to the Volleyball Team for winning the Kansas 6A State Championship over the weekend. The Mustangs went undefeated all weekend to capture the program's first ever state title after coming very close many times. The squad defeated Olathe Northwest in the semifinals and Blue Valley West in the finals and completed their season with an impressive 40-2 record.

Also congratulations to the following players on receiving All-EKL recognition. First Team: Clara Benskin, Jasmine Dulan, Janelle Green and Logan Parks. Second Team: Morgan DeBow. Honorable Mention: Nora Carlsen and Jenna McClure.

    BVN News Staff

The 2020-2021 BVN Newspaper, The North Star, was just nominated as a Finalist in the prestigious Pacemaker competition. BVN joins six other Kansas schools as a Finalist. There are 65 schools that have been named finalists, and the 28 winners will be announced Nov. 13. In all, entries were considered from the United States, including the District of Columbia, as well as South Korea and the United Kingdom. As you know, the conditions in which news staffs had to work last year were difficult, so we are perhaps even more proud of the staff than usual.

For the 2022 AP exams, students at Blue Valley North High School will be registering online. Online Exam registration will begin today and end on Fri, Mar 11, 2022 at 4:00 PM. The AP exam registration process is two steps, but both can be completed in one sitting when the student and parent/guardian do this together. Even if you do not plan to take the AP exam, you need to complete both 2-3 steps to access the College Board’s AP resources. Both 2-3 steps must be completed in order to have AP exams ordered:

Cal Poly Pomona College of Engineering Femineer Program Application - due 11/19 (new)

Cal Poly Pomona College of Engineering is excited to start a new cohort of Femineers this 2021-2022 academic year. The Femineer Program was created to empower K-12 female students to develop the skills and confidence needed to pursue majors and careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields. It has expanded to include other under-represented individuals in these fields.

Blue Valley was the first school district in the state of Kansas to offer the Femineer Program. This program uses curriculum created by Cal Poly Pomona College of Engineering. It was designed for young women who are interested in problem solving and engineering. It has expanded to include other under-represented individuals in these fields. The mission of the Femineer program is to inspire and empower students to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) in their education and future careers. Twenty-four freshmen/sophomores will be selected by an application/recommendation process, to join the first year Femineers. This amazing program requires students to commit to all 3 years of the program; each year with a different curriculum. The Femineers will annually meet one or two Saturdays a month or on weekdays when school is not in session. This school year the meetings are scheduled for 12/18, 1/8, 1/29, 2/12, 2/26, 3/26, 4/9(potential make-up date in case we have cancelled due to weather), 4/23 & 5/14(our showcase) from 8:00 a.m. to noon. The curriculum is intended to have successful completion of a final project with 30 to 40 hours invested by the participants. Typically, we will meet from 8:00 a.m. to noon at Blue Valley Northwest. There are a couple of potential field trip days, which may extend the day until 4:00, with lunch provided. There is an annual fee to participate in the program. The cost to participate this year is $100 which will cover all hardware, software, consumable supplies and Femineer clothing item(due to the pandemic, no food will be served during half day meetings). Scholarships may be available for students with financial need. That request should be submitted to the program advisor Ms. Stohlmann at .

If you are interested in joining the program and have the qualifications, please fill out an application (pick up a copy in the BVN main office), scan it and return it to the Femineer Program advisor Karen Stohlmann at . Deadline is Nov. 19.

    TSA/Engineering Club

If you need any other information about the club, please stop by room 522 and talk with Mr. Riley.

    Durham Bus Riders (updated)

Durham will continue to transport our bus riders in the 2021-22 school year. If you have questions, please call Durham at 913-681-2492. The best time to call is between 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. when more staff are available to answer questions.

Durham Bus Services has three helpful tools for families with bus riders. Registration is required each year for families as bus routes and participants change:

    1. Bus Tracker: The Blue Valley Durham location will be using the Bus Tracker mobile app that is available for iOS and Android devices. To use the app, users will create an account that is tied to an email address of the user’s choice. The tool will allow account users to follow the route of a specific bus. Durham is updating daily when a scheduled backup bus is being used for a planned maintenance activity. If a bus is replaced with a quick turnaround due to an unforeseen event, Durham dispatch will make the switch on Bus Tracker at their next opportunity to update the app.
    2. Text Messaging: Families are still encouraged to sign up for Durham Text Messaging. The system is designed to share the “why” as Bus Tracker is designed to tell the “where”. To sign up for Durham Text Messaging visit
    3. E-Link: Allows for verification of a student’s transportation information (i.e., stop location, bus # and pick-up and drop off times) based on the input of grade and home address. To access E-Link, go to

We could not provide the depth and breadth of opportunities without your help through memberships and donations of your time.

The Mustang Club needs your support! Membership is down and volunteers are in short supply. Here are some options for you to consider:

    · Become a Mustang Club member at one of the five membership levels;

    · Purchase spirit wear from The Mustang Club website (;

    · Volunteer on a Mustang Club committee to support a specific event or cause. We specifically need a VP of Activities and a President Elect; and

    · Take advantage of sponsorships for companies wanting to support BVN financially.

Thank you for your support and consideration and GO MUSTANGS!
