PARTNERS IN EDUCATION (PiE)
Dear El Carmelo Families,
Palo Alto Partners in Education (PiE) is an incredible partner of our school. Funding from PiE allows me to provide much more staff than our budget would otherwise allow. Because of donations to PiE, we can have our vital classroom aides and counseling program. PiE’s funding provides specialized art and music programs that enhance the academics for each student. The difference in the school with PiE’s support is remarkable. It would be a very different place without this additional funding.
If you have already donated to PiE this year, I appreciate your support. If you have not, I ask you to please consider donating now. If you donate or pledge by November 16th, your donation may be matched by a Challenge Grant.
A donation, in any amount that is meaningful for your family, makes a difference to our community and our school.
You can find out all the ways to contribute to PiE at https://papie.org/donate/.
Thank you for being a wonderful member of the El Carmelo community.

FOURTH & FIFTH GRADE TRANSITION TO HYBRID AND DISTANCE LEARNING
Each morning as I drive to work listening to NPR, and drive home listening to NPR I am reminded of the significant work we do in partnership with families each day. We are educating citizens of a fragile democracy. The diversity within our school community is reflective of the world our children will lead. Learning how to manage emotions, disappointment, and seeing the humanity in each other is an important part of our daily work.
As a community, we experienced abrupt school closure last March. Even more, surprising, was Zoom, Schoology, synchronous and asynchronous lessons. In August, we started school in Distance Learning, and once we felt like we were in a good rhythm, had another decision to make, Hybrid Learning or Distance Learning. We have done this all while navigating Covid-19, wearing masks, social distancing, washing hands and, making choices about socializing safely. Transitions and change will continue to occur this school year. The article below may be useful for you in supporting your child through our shared experience. Our school community will continue to work through this together.
