The Taj Mahal is one of the most wonderful buildings ever built in the history of mankind. In 1631 Shah Jahan, the mughal king lost his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. He constructed the Taj Mahal in her memory and as a resting place for her tomb.
It was located on the south bank of the Yamuna River, outside the city of Agra, India. The whole complex is an rectangle measuring 1,900 feet by 1,000 feet aligned north and south.
The Taj Mahal took 22 years, from 1632 to 1654 and approximately 20,000 workers to complete.
