WISD MIDDLE SCHOOL GRADING GUIDELINES
Purpose/Intent
Mastery of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) reporting involves determining each
student’s proficiency on the skills students should learn in each subject area aligned to
Weatherford Independent School District curriculum.
Weight of Grades
A minimum of two major grades must be given each reporting period.
Number of Grades
Teachers will have a minimum of 10 grades for each six weeks grading period.
Reassessment Policy
Per Board Policy EIA (Local), a student will be given a reasonable opportunity to redo an
assignment or retake a test for which the student received a failing grade. Teachers will ensure a student has the opportunity within 5 school days to redo an assignment or retake a test.
Weight of Exam for Semester Grade and Calculation of Semester Average/Yearly Average
All students enrolled in core content courses in the secondary schools will have a final exam
unless the student is exempt through the approved exemption policy. The grade on the final
exam will count 1/10th of the semester grade. Yearly averages will be determined by averaging the two semester grades, and a “70” or better shall indicate mastery of the TEKS for the course.
Academic Dishonesty
Per Board Policy EIA (Local), a student found to have engaged in academic dishonesty shall be subject to grade penalties on assignments or tests and disciplinary penalties in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. Academic dishonesty includes cheating or copying the work of another student, plagiarism, and unauthorized communication between students during an examination. The determination that a student has engaged in academic dishonesty shall be based on the judgment of the classroom teacher or another supervising professional employee, taking into consideration written materials, observation, or information from students. Students will be given opportunity to be reassessed and the maximum grade to be given is 70.
Zeros
Teachers shall evaluate work, effort, and/or previous work history on the assignment or project to determine if a grade of zero accurately reflects the student’s knowledge of the TEKS for the topic or subject.
Parent Notifications of Progress Reports
Per Board Policy EIA (Legal), a district, at least once every three weeks must give written notice to a parent if student’s performance in a foundation curriculum subject is below a 70. Parents must sign acknowledgment of the required notice and the district must retain a record verifying the parent’s acknowledgement.
Tison Middle School Late Work Policy
A student has the opportunity within 5 school days to turn in late work for a maximum grade of 70. After 5 days, if late work has not been turned in, teachers shall evaluate work, effort, and/or previous work history on the assignment or project to determine if a grade of zero accurately reflects the student’s knowledge of the TEKS for the topic or subject.
*For UIL eligibility, all late work must be turned in by the end of the grading period. If work is not turned in by the end of the grading period, a grade of zero will be recorded.

Kanga Care's purpose is to increase the educational success of students and staff by assuring access to healthcare. At Tison Middle School, we are equipping our students to recognize the warning signs of students in crisis and to get help...
National Suicide Prevention Hotline
We can all help prevent suicide. The Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones, and best practices for professionals. Depression and other mental health issues can interfere with students' ability to learn and can affect their academic performance.
National Suicide Prevention Hotline: 1-800-273-8255

Results of Tison Tennis Match on Wednesday, September 11th
Unfortunately, Tison Tennis fell to Aledo on September 11th -- losing 3 to 16. Although there were some extremely close matches, Tison could not pull off the win. Caiden Lyerla (8th), and his Hall MS doubles partner dominated their doubles match while Brynli Ruthesell (7th) and Maiah Gal (7th) did some damage with their doubles match.
Emma Melven (7th), almost had a win but came up a little short in her tie-breaker. Ryan Rovnyak (8th), Caiden Lyerla (8th), and Tison doubles partners Avery Breedlove (8th) and Peyton Funderburk (8th) almost pulled out wins as well. We will get them next time! Your coach is proud of you!!
Thanks for all those students who came out to watch including Tison principal, Dr. Bradley! Let's go Roos!!!
