Student council recognition: Mrs. Kalin!

We would like to recognize a teacher that has helped many of us and many other students throughout her many years here at OV. She gives her all when she tries to inspire students to succeed. She is a hard worker and devotes her time to many clubs and associations. But no matter what she is doing, she always thinks of “her kids”. She cares for every one of her students. If it's going to her for a band-aid, a snack, or just someone to talk to, she can always be relied on. She has helped with the Play, has come to every game, and has helped us all by inspiring us to be great. Her passion for books has inspired reading in many students. We would like to recognize Mrs. Kalin for all that she does to make this school a better place. -- Peter Kalin

HONOR SOCIETY FOOD DRIVE, TILL DEC. 18

This year each grade is working together by class to collect a variety of canned goods so, we hope, bags can be distributed to both the South Otselic and Georgetown food banks. The lists reflect what's most needed, but you are welcome to contribute other nonperishable foods. We are grateful for the generosity of our community to help others during this holiday season.

Cox Block fire anniversary

A year ago today, the Cox Block fire forever changed the South Otselic landscape. It was a shocking event but it wasn't a last chapter. We now have a new store, we have deep appreciation for our community, and we are freshly reminded of those things that truly matter. We didn't make this 15-min short video, but some of you may appreciate its content. [Video credit: A. Pagan]

We are Viking proud. We are OV strong. We are home.

Holiday Sing-Along for Pre-K -- 4th grade

Thanks, everybody, for coming to our annual Sing-Along for students and families in Pre-K through 4th grade. The students were excited, a little nervous, and really happy to see you. We also noticed a lot of reading going on -- students were following along in the program as the evening progressed. We think that's awesome! Big thanks go to Mrs. Neal and Mr. Decker for teaching us fun holiday music and arranging the details for this fun event. We appreciate your support of music education in our schools, and of student opportunities to learn confidence. The OVTA also rocked the evening with a book and cookie give-away right after the concert. The treats were good for our imaginations and good for our tastebuds -- thank you! (Next, don't miss the Winter Concert presented by our older band and chorus students in grades 5-12; it's Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 7 pm.)
