Instrument Check - Out
Many 3rd through 8th-grade students want to take their string instruments home to practice and I am delighted with their enthusiasm. However, it is important that you know that the instrument is the student's responsibility while it is checked out.
If an instrument is damaged or destroyed while it is checked out to a student, it will be the financial responsibility of that student and/or parents for repairs or replacement.
If you do not want your child to check out an instrument, I ask that you email me to let me know not to send an instrument home with them.
If your child does take an instrument home, check-out day is every Wednesday and it must be back for class the following Monday. Please encourage your child to find time to play their instrument at home and help them remember to bring it back to school on Monday.
It is not recommended that students travel with their instruments. It is often a recipe for disaster.
If I do not hear from you indicating that you do not want an instrument coming home, I will assume it is ok with you and your child can take home an instrument starting tomorrow.
Thank you for your help and support,
Mrs. Cooley

John Hancock Charter School
· JHCS is a public school founded by parents looking for choice in their children’s education.
· JHCS does not charge tuition – we are funded like any other public school based on the number of students attending the school.
· At JHCS parent involvement is important. Parents agree to donate 40 hours per year to the school. We average between 5,800 to 6,500 hours of volunteer service to the school annually. With approximately 100 families, that represents over 58 hours per family. Our parents are very involved and dedicated to the success of our school.
· JHCS student population comes from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds.
· JHCS class size is between 22 to 26 students per class, 1 class per grade.
· JHCS teachers are state certified and follow the same requirements as any other public school.
· JHCS uses the Core Knowledge Curriculum.
· The Core Knowledge Sequence is a solid, sequenced specific and shared core curriculum that helps children establish a strong foundation of knowledge grade by grade. The guiding principle is that knowledge builds on knowledge. Children learn by building on what they already have learned. The sequence provides in great detail exactly what children should learn at each grade in core subjects so they can carry that knowledge on with them to the next level.
