Hawthorne Celebrates the 100th Day of School
The 100th day of school was a big celebration at Hawthorne! Students were engaged in counting and grouping numbers across place values to make 100.
Kindergarteners created posters with 100 items of their choosing, made crowns with 100 dots, necklaces with 100 items and so much more! The focus was on counting groups of ten with many different objects and counting by tens to 100. First-grade students came in proudly showing off their T-shirts with 100 items. They also created pictures using the numbers one and zero and explored what they would look like in 100 years. Second graders used their estimation skills to predict how many times they could complete a task in 100 seconds. During writing workshop students wrote opinion pieces reflecting on what it would be like to be 100 years old. Students also used their multi-digit addition and subtraction skills to reveal hidden messages in a 100s chart. Lastly, they put their probability skills to the test by flipping a coin 100 times, doing their best to predict the probability of landing on heads or tails.
First graders proudly shared their 100th day t-shirt designs.
Our second grade morning announcers led the school in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Music Notes with Ms. Rao
In recognition of Black History Month, our students have been learning about Stevie Wonder a Black American musician, who has accomplished so much since age 12 when his first song was aired on the radio!
We are excited for you to join us for the first-grade show on February 13th. We invite students to dress up for the concert. Please have all adult attendees wear the wristbands that were sent home.
