How It Was Affected
Guam was taken by America, during the Spanish- American War in 1898. Guam was taken for many reasons. The major reason why is because they were a site that American economic and military power could set up a military base. It was a strategic spot for them because it was in the Asia- Pacific region and it offered the largest deep- water port in the Western Pacific. That was good for them because it gave America a smooth route to travel, and military resources.
Sphere of Influence
Chamorros, which are members of the Mariana Islands, including Guam, were concentrated into spheres of influence. They were determined by the geography of Guam. The chamorros were forced by the American to be taught its spheres of influences with lessons on Americans greatness.
