Glenealy School Newsletter

Message from Brenda
Dear Parents and Caregivers
I’m looking forward to seeing you all at the PTA casual drinks this Thursday. Pop in and have a drink and chat with other parents, you’ll really enjoy it.
Please note: All students should wear their P.E. kit to school on Friday as we will be having a house assembly.
How are you going with helping your child to develop a Growth Mindset?
A quick recap.
Having a growth mindset helps us all to learn, grow and achieve our goals. If you have a growth mindset you believe that your skills and intelligence are things that can be developed and improved and that you can always learn and improve because skills are built over time.
However, if you have a fixed mindset you believe your intelligence and talent are fixed at birth and you don’t have the ability to get better at things or do well in certain areas.
These visuals will help to illustrate the point. For more information go to the Glenealy Globe on the Website. https://gloodle.glenealy.edu.hk/course/view.php?id=564
You will need your child’s Globe password which is in their diary. It’s worth a look as we can see the difference in the way students learn when they shift from a fixed to a growth mindset. It’s really worth investing the time to explore this.
Kind regards
Brenda

Glenealy Top Tech Tip
Child-Safe YouTube
There is an age requirement for posting content on YouTube. Age 13 is supposed to be the minimum age for uploading anything onto this popular site. However, enforcing this limit is up to parents.
YouTube has built in parental controls that allow parents to kid-safe Youtube. At the bottom of the page when setting up the account, there are ON and OFF buttons that can be turned on and used to the help block a lot of unacceptable content. It isn’t foolproof, but it can lessen the likelihood of your children viewing things that are not approved by parents. You can then engage the Lock safety mode on the browser. See the set-up steps here.
YouTube now has its own app for iPad geared toward children on the App Store, called "YouTube Kids". Although some adult content can still sometimes get through, it makes it less likely and less offensive when something does get past. Parental monitoring should still be happening when using their app.
