Principal Ponderings: Growth
1. I called to attention some 5th/6th-grade tomfoolery in the cafeteria and our 6th grader, instead of becoming disgruntled and argumentative, came right over and was attentive. He even said "yes, sir" albeit in a likely less than serious manner, but I'll take it over the alternative.
2. A young man, frustrated with a peer, rather than shoving or throwing things to deal with his emotions, asked to leave the classroom and head to learning lab for a cool down. He stayed for a bit and continued on with his afternoon with no further issue.
3. This one I'm super proud of. A young man was physically approached by another while in the hallway. Instead of responding in a similar fashion like he would have in the fall, he managed to get the other kid away from him and kept his distance between the two of them so the situation didn't become worse. As his behavior has improved over the course of the year, so too, has his academics.
These are just three examples of students showing social-emotional growth during the school year. Not all success in a school building is about academics.
