A Peek Inside the Week - Oct. 14th, 2022
A Note From Your Principals
Dear Families,
Our #1 goal each day is to ensure that all our student bus riders are transported safely to and from school. In order to accomplish this goal, we need the cooperation of our families and our students!
Good student behavior while entering, riding, and leaving the bus contributes in many ways to a safe ride, both physically and social-emotionally. When students display expected behaviors, it makes it possible for the driver to give full attention to the roadway and other drivers.
In the last few weeks, we've seen a significant increase in the number of bus incident reports, as well as student reports, of negative experiences on the bus. As a result, we're reteaching, reminding, and reinforcing our PAWS expectations for the bus. As important partners in this effort, we are asking each family to take a few minutes this weekend to review with your child(ren) the PAWS expectations outlined below:
Personal Responsibility:
- Follow bus rules
- Keep your area clean
- Use indoor voices
- Take your things with you when you leave
Acting Safely:
- Quiet hands
- Quiet feet
- Stay in your seat
Working Together:
- Be a friend to your seat-mate
- Remind others of the bus rules
Showing Respect:
- Listen to the bus driver
- Have respectful conversations
The primary purpose of these expectations are for the safety of all students. Your child’s cooperation in following all rules and procedures is appreciated by the drivers and our school staff!
Book Fair Recap
Thank you all for supporting our first Scholastic Book Fair of the year! Our goal was $10,000 and we sold $11,205.19 - one of our highest fairs ever! Almost half of our sales came from eWallet! This process is much easier for our volunteers and means less cash was floating around the school; thank you to all families who utilized that payment option.
When we host a Scholastic Fair, we can receive rewards as cash or Scholastic Dollars. With the Scholastic Dollars we had in our account prior to this fair, we gifted approximately $2400 to our community throughout the fair!! We used these dollars in a variety of ways:
- If a child came to the fair without money (whether a family was unable to spend money or if they simply forgot to bring money), we made sure every child left with a book. Our goal is to not exclude any children from leaving with at least 1 book.
- We treated multiple new-to-ET and new to a grade-level teachers to $100 shopping sprees for their classroom. We also gifted $100 worth of books to the PAWS raffle!
- We completed classroom wish lists for every grade.
- And tax - this was the first time we needed to charge sales tax. We didn't turn away a child who may have been missing a small amount of money due to tax - we covered those situations with Scholastic Dollars as well.
As always, THANK YOU to all volunteers!! We would not be able to run these fairs without you!
See everyone at our next fair at the end of February - Happy Reading!
