RES Family Update

Yearbooks have arrived. Pre-ordered and pre-paid for yearbooks may be picked up in the front office. Once all pre-paid yearbooks has been delivered, we will offer extra yearbooks to be purchased.

Car Rider Drop Off/Pick-Up/Walkers

Car Rider Morning Drop OFF: 8:45 AM

Car rider morning drop off will remain the same as last year. Cars will use Central Avenue turning onto Seward Road then into the side parking lot and drop off students outside the side entrance to the cafeteria. RES staff and the SRO will be there to assist students out of the car. Students will be able to begin entering the building at 8:45 AM.


Car Rider Afternoon Pick UP: 3:40 PM

Car rider pick-up will continue as we ended last year. Parents will need use Hog Lot Road and turn on Seward Road, drive past the sports fields and enter the side parking lot to the school.

At dismissal - beginning 3:40 PM, car riders will be dismissed to the cafeteria. Students will be called from the cafeteria as parents pull into the parking lot. RES staff and the SRO will assist students into the car.


Walker Afternoon Pick UP: 3:40 PM

Walker Pickup will continue as we ended last year. Parents need to come to the picnic table area to pickup their child(ren).


At dismissal - beginning at 3:40 PM, walkers will be dismissed to the media center. Students will be called from the media center and exit the side door near the picnic table area. RES staff will assist students and release students to parents.


If your child will be a daily car rider or daily walker, please print and complete the appropriate form using the link below and return the form to school before the first day. The form can be completed and dropped off in the main office, at Meet the Teacher or you can email a completed form to: res.secretaries@ccpsstaff.org

If you will need to change your child's dismissal plans during the day, you must write note or call the office before 3 PM.

Bus Information

Students in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten will receive a post card from transportation providing their bus number, pick-up and drop-off location and times.


Students that rode the bus last year will have the same bus, location, and approximate pick-up and drop-off times. The only exception is for Bus 43. Bus 43 will not provide transportation for RES this year. Bus 43 is being replaced by bus 67. However, the location, pick-up and drop-off times will remain the same as last year.


If a student did not ride the bus last year and will this year, please call the school for bus information.


If a student's pick-up and/or drop-off address has changed during the summer, please call the school for bus information.

Meet the Teacher scheduled for Tuesday, August 30 from 2:30 - 3:30.

Our Meet the Teacher event is scheduled for Tuesday, August 30 from 2:30 - 3:30. This event will provide an opportunity for students and parents to meet their teacher, visit the classroom and drop off school supplies. This is an informal greeting and parents and student may come anytime between 2:30 and 3:30. We look forward to seeing everyone.

Back to School Night is scheduled for Thursday, September 15 from 6 - 7:30 PM.

Dress Code Reminders


As a reminder to students and families, Caroline has a dress code policy which applies to students on school property, at school-sponsored activities, and events away from school. Our goal is to create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment where all students are comfortable and respectful of themselves and others.


With elementary students, parents’ good judgment is essential regarding what children should wear to school. Clothes should be safe, not disturb or distract other students, and be appropriate for outside weather conditions and the school setting.


Basics for Students at All Grade Levels


Clothing and other attire cannot promote or symbolize:

  • Alcohol, tobacco, cannabis or other drugs
  • Profanity, obscenity, or vulgarity
  • Violence, hate or discrimination
  • Nudity or pornographic images or sentiments
  • Illegal activity

Clothing should appropriately cover private areas of the body:

  • Frayed items, appropriate length shorts and leggings are acceptable.
  • Tank or tube tops, shirts that do not cover the midriff, see-through clothing items, and spaghetti straps worn without a covering shirt are not appropriate for the school setting.
  • Pants and shorts must be fastened at the natural waistline.
  • Chains attached to clothing are not permitted.
  • Heavy coats and all head coverings should remain in lockers or the closet area during the school day.
  • Head coverings for religious reasons or medical reasons are appropriate with advance approval from administration.


Administration at each school will ensure students are following the dress code policy.

Cell Phone Information

At Caroline County Public Schools, our goal is to create a welcoming, safe, and focused learning environment for students, and the best possible conditions for staff to support students. Student cell phone use at school has been identified as a tremendous detriment to meeting that goal. Today’s youth battle constant distraction caused by cell phone alerts and messaging that interrupt their ability to focus, which creates a negative impact on school culture and learning.


Cell phone rules and use throughout CCPS have not been consistent over the past few years. In addition, since the pandemic, all students have been provided with computers or some type of digital learning tool, and they no longer need to use their own device in the classroom. In order to address these issues and bring consistency throughout the district, the following rules will be in place while the cell phone policy is being officially updated.


Beginning with the 2022-2023 school year, there is a district wide restriction on cell phones. Students are permitted to bring cell phones to school but must comply with the school level expectations.


Specifically:


In elementary schools, phones are to be turned off and secured in the student’s backpack for the entire school day.


In middle and high schools, phones should be silenced and out of sight in the instructional areas, restrooms, locker rooms, and all school offices areas.

Should a parent need to contact a student during the school day, they should call the school office.


We understand this is a change from years past and will be a challenge for many students. We are asking for the support of families in helping us to create an environment where students are able to focus on meaningful work, collaborative relationships, and creative thinking.

TITLE I Information

RES Vision:

RES is a progressive community of learners collaboratively supporting each other through intentional planning in a risk-taking and trusting environment, leading to rigor, student autonomy, and mastery of content standards in all learning settings.

Parents Right to Know


The Federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) contains several provisions that promote a parent/school partnership through communication. One such provision gives parents the right to ask for and receive information about the professional qualifications of their child’s classroom teachers. A parent may request the following information:


  • Any college or university degree, major or certification held by the teacher
  • Whether the teacher is certified by the State of Maryland to teach a particular grade level or subject area
  • Whether the teacher holds a conditional teaching certificate
  • The qualifications of the paraprofessionals serving the student


If you would like to request the professional qualifications of your child’s classroom teachers or paraprofessionals, please submit a written request to the principal. The principal will provide the information to you within 30 business days of the date of your request.


Parents may also request information on the level of achievement and academic growth of their child, if applicable and available, on each of the State academic assessments.


Parents will receive timely notice if the student has been assigned, or has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who does not meet applicable State certification or licensure requirements at the grade level and subject area in which the teacher has been assigned.


Parents May Request Teacher Information


The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015 provides parents of students attending Title 1 schools the opportunity to request information about the professional qualifications of their child's teachers. Parents of elementary students may request in writing to the school principal information about their child's teacher including college/university degrees of certification held, subject area of the teacher's degree or certification, and Maryland certification status. Additionally, if your child is served by paraprofessionals, parents may request their professional qualifications.


Parent Information Resource Center


Parents are encouraged to visit our Parent Information Resource Center (PIRC) located in the lobby outside of the front office. The PIRC has a variety of parenting resources and informational brochures and flyers. These materials are all free. Parents can find the School Improvement Plan, RES School Family Engagement Compact, booklets from The Parent Institute on topics such as “Seven Habits of Highly Responsible Students; Help Your Child Balance School and Extracurricular Activities; and Helping Children Learn to Resolve Conflicts.” Parents can also find information regarding Caroline County Recreation and Parks, Caroline County Library, Imagination Library and Maryland Department of Health . Please be sure to check out our Parent Information Resource Center next time you come to the school.
