- All course selections for the 18-19 school year must be made by midnight today. Contact a school counselor if you have any questions. 8th grade entries have been extended until Wednesday due to problems with IC.
- PHSN had 9 athletes sign Letters of Intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at DI and DII schools this past week. Congrats to the athletes and their families.
- Dr. Parulekar and his staff took numerous student performers to the OMEA State conference. As always, North Pride was the talk of the event!! Congrats to all that participated!
A huge day for National Letters of Intent

Global Scholars
GLOBAL SCHOLARS DIPLOMA PROGRAM
Year 1 of 3: being offered for the first time in 2018-2019 at PLSD!
To apply for the program, students must fill out this application in GoogleForms:

Both Pickerington high schools will be offering a new high school course series in 2018-2019 that aligns with the new honors diploma requirements, which require a portfolio and field experience. (New Ohio Honors Diploma Requirements can be found here: https://education.ohio.gov/getattachment/Topics/Ohio-Graduation-Requirements/Graduation-Requirements-2014-2017/Criteria-for-Diploma-with-Honors/Honors-Diploma-Revised-Grid.pdf.aspx
The new course, the Global Scholars Diploma Program
(https://columbusworldaffairs.org/program-training/global-scholars-diploma/), will fulfill these two requirements and also provide the student with an integrated global curriculum over three years. The course series provides hands-on experiences, simulations, and practical examples and strategies for global studies and cultural competence. Students will gain a deeper understanding of and define intercultural competence, explore the "other" and the value of varied perspectives throughout their school communities, gain insights into cultural nuances and effective interaction with local-global cultures, and develop a skills tool-kit to leverage the global landscape of their classrooms and school communities to enrich all students' experiences. Year 1 of 3 will be offered in 2018-2019!
In Year 1 of the program, students will attend four off-campus events at universities and businesses and select four enrichment experiences under the following themes: Investigate the World, Recognize Perspectives, Communicate Ideas, and Take Action. Students can modify assignments that they are already creating in their PLSD courses for credit for this course.
In Year 2, students will attend four off-campus meetings and complete and e-course on global issues.
In Year 3, students will complete the individual portfolio and capstone project, both of which are part of the requirements for Ohio’s new Honors Diplomas.
· There is a limit of 25 spots per high school, so this opportunity will be highly competitive.
· Students will earn credit for each year of participation.
· The course will be taught via blended learning so that it will not limit students’ scheduling opportunities during the regular school day. Students will meet with teachers and advisors through the Google Classroom, independent and group meetings, and over lunch.
· Students who complete the three year series will have an additional recognition on their diploma, identifying them as a Global Scholar.
· Students who complete the capstone project and off-campus field experiences can use them to count as those experiences for the new high school honors diploma requirements.
· Ideally, students begin the program in their freshman year (Year 1) and finish their junior year (Year 3). Their senior year, they serve as advisors and mentors to new cohort members.
· In the student's third year of the program (year 3 is ideally their junior year if the program is begun as a freshman), students will complete a portfolio and capstone project, which can be used in their applications for college or training school after high school.
· In the senior year, service as an advisor to new, Year 1 cohort members can be highlighted on resumes and college applications.
· For more information, see https://columbusworldaffairs.org/program-training/global-scholars-diploma/
· In year 1, students must be concurrently enrolled in a World Language at PLSD and successful completion of Year 1 is required for enrollment in Year 2, which will be offered in 2019-20.
