Prestwood Connection

May 22, 2023

Hello Prestwood Families,

We are in the homestretch of our school year! 12 more school days remain in the 2022-2023 school year. It was so great to see so many students and families attend Open House last week. Open House is one of my favorite end of year events where students' hard work and learning is showcased.

Lunch Menu Change: Monday and Tuesday will be switched this week.

Monday - Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Tuesday - Calzones

Field Day - Prestwood's Field Day is scheduled for June 1st. We are in need of volunteers to run stations. If you are able to volunteer, please sign up using the link below.

While the end of the school year is full on many fun and exciting moments, it is also a time where students need an extra reminder or two to continue to make good choices at school. At home, I encourage you talk with your students about what it means to "Be safe, respectful and responsible" while they are at school. Each day, I see so many moments where students are making excellent choices, being kind to one another, and following our school expectations. Occasionally, there are choices that do not follow our school expectations. We are so close to summer! Thank you for all that you do to support your Prestwood Panthers to make positive choices at school.

Please remember there is no school on Friday, May 26th and Monday, May 29th.

Have a wonderful week,

Laura Thomas

  • Handicapped spots are reserved for vehicles with handicapped placards.
  • Slowly pull forward in the pick up area when you are dropping off or picking up your student.

Parent Survey: Safe Routes to School

Whether you walk, bike, or drive to school, improving Safe Routes to School makes our streets safer for all road users! This important survey will inform future Safe Routes to School programming and projects (including potential infrastructure improvements such as bike lanes, crosswalks, etc) to facilitate safer transportation. This year, local public works/planning departments in every jurisdiction are working on their Active Transportation Plan updates. An infrastructure project typically needs to be in a Transportation Plan in order for it to be funded. Parent (and school staff) voices are critical for identifying potential projects and priority routes in the vicinity of schools.

COVID Antigen Testing - Sign Up Link

The Sonoma Valley Unified School District will offer the K-12 School Antigen Testing Program for district students and staff. Participation in this program requires registration with the COLOR system in order to be tested. Unlike at-home testing, the school antigen testing is performed on test cards on school grounds and results are available in 15 minutes. Select district staff at every campus will be able to administer the school antigen testing and families are required to register their child to be tested. If you have a child at more than one school, you will need to register them through the unique link for each of the schools.

SVUSD Community - Substitute daily rate increase!

Through the remainder of this school year, the daily rate for certificated substitutes will be $250/day! A long-term rate for work in the same position for 20+ days will be a whopping $307/day.

Have you ever been interested in the work of a school district employee? Do you have some time on your hands and wouldn't mind making a little extra money while serving our valley's youth?

We have two opportunities for you!

If you have a bachelor's degree and are interested in being a guest teacher, please contact Danielle Contreras at Dcontreras@sonomaschools.org for details!

In addition to guest teachers, we are seeking hardworking, dedicated, and compassionate adults to serve as classified substitutes at this time. We have experienced an increasing need as an outcome of the Pandemic and could use support in clerical work, transportation, campus supervision, student support and so much more.

If you are interested in being added to our classified employee sub-pool, please contact Ann Marie Paparelli at Apaparelli@sonomaschools.org to begin the simple process of onboarding.

These are paid positions and the compensation varies by the type of work completed.
Thank you!
