FRESHMAN NEWSLETTER
Class of 2019
We made it to Cycle 6! Congratulations!!!!
A Note from Mrs. Rankin, Freshman Principal
Can it be this is the last Freshman Newsletter of the year? Unbelievably, it is! We are in the “home stretch” of this school year and it’s almost “a wrap”! There are some end of the year “housekeeping items” I will put at the end of this section, so please be sure you look over those before you hit “delete” on this newsletter!
By the time you are reading this, the final STAAR tests will be upon us---Algebra I is Monday, May 2, and Biology and US History are Tuesday, May 3. You will (if you haven’t already) be receiving specific information for those days. Just a reminder, though, that we need our freshmen here on time (breakfast will be free to test takers both days) and they MUST have a sack lunch (they can be purchased in the cafeteria prior to the beginning of testing)! We know your students will do well as they have worked hard to be prepared all year!
A Few End of the Year “Housekeeping” Items:
- Be sure your freshman does not have more than 9 absences to first/fifth period or 5 to any A/B day class this semester or credit will be denied. This could cause your student to still be classified as a freshman at the beginning of next year, until they clear the credits by attending tutorials/Saturday Schools NEXT year. (Information will be mailed home at the beginning of the year explaining if credit was denied and how many tutorials are owed.)
- A side note to this is that several of the freshmen have not cleared tutorials from first semester, and this absolutely must be done before the last day of school.
- Final exams will not be given early, so students who may have to miss final exams will have to call the CHS Counseling Office to make up their exams once school is out.
- Review the dress code with your freshman, please….especially in regards to yoga pants, leggings, tights, holes in jeans (none above the knee) and shorts (mid-thigh). (The top covering yoga pants, leggings & tights MUST be mid-thigh, the length required for shorts as well.) We hate to send students home, but the expectations have been clearly communicated on multiple occasions, and we will enforce them.
- If your freshman has a locker, it will need to be totally cleaned out the last week of school. Any belongings left after school is out will be donated to charity.
- TEXTBOOKS MUST BE RETURNED OR they MUST BE PAID FOR before the last day of school!!! Any student who has not cleared their textbook “bill” will not be allowed to check out textbooks next year until their account is cleared.
- Report cards will be available on HAC within one week of the close of school.
- If your freshman failed one or more classes, or one of their STAAR tests, you will receive a call from the counselor with summer course and summer intervention program information prior to the end of school.
- End of the year Honor Rolls will be posted/eblasted as soon as grades are finalized in HAC.
It has been my absolute pleasure to serve you this year and to get to know your children! I look forward to watching the Class of 2019 graduate on time in just over 3 years!!!
Thank you for your support as we have worked together this year to that end!
Carol
Notes
English
The English I students are wrapping up the year with researching current social issues and possible solutions. They are doing a great job with coming up with fresh ideas to some of our biggest issues. Using the library database, Chromebooks, Google docs, and turnitin.com, the students are producing some incredible projects.
Besides the research, students are reading a variety of novels in their literary circles with their classmates. The conversations have been interesting and the thought process at a high level!
