October News
What's happening at HGECC?
Welcome to HGECC!
Dear HGECC families,
Wow! That fall weather moved in quick, didn't it? One day the kids were in shorts and t-shirts, and the next day they got off the bus in hoodies and long pants!
We are excited to start learning and exploring all of the fall things around us, from leaves to pumpkins! So many colors and rich vocabulary goes with this season too! Classes will be heading out to the pumpkin patch towards the end of the month, so be on the lookout for permission slips that will be making their way home. This is always a neat experience for your children and our staff as they get to learn about the farm, touch the animals, play in the pumpkin patch, and bring back a pumpkin of their own!
Picture Day is coming this Tuesday the 8th. Please give us a call if you have any questions. We are looking forward to all of those amazing picture day smiles!
Parent/Teacher conferences are also coming up this month. We will be holding conferences on October 22nd and 24th, and your teachers will be scheduling times with you soon, if you haven't already heard from them. Please be sure to find time to connect with them so that you can see all of the neat things your child is doing! We have so much to share!
We also have our annual Trunk or Treat event scheduled for Thursday, October 17th here at HGECC! It will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Your child can dress up in his/her costume, and come out to trick or treat with our staff! It is always so much fun!
Are you curious about what your little person does all day while they are here? Check out your child's classroom website for pictures, resources, and updates on what is happening! We are always adding new information to our building page and teacher pages. Go to https://hgecc.grandviewc4.net, click on "about us", then go to "teachers and staff". Find your teacher's name and click on their website.
Remember-if you ever have any questions or ideas you would like to share with me, please give me a call!
Enjoy the cooler weather and have a great October!

Conscious Discipline Focus at Home:
Noticing
There are four steps that will help you successfully notice when your child is helpful (without judging). Start by using your child’s name or the word “you”. Next, describe in detail what he/she did that was helpful. You want to help your child understand how that behavior helped someone else. Last, you want to end your statement with: “that was helpful” or “that was thoughtful”.
Here is an example of the noticing language: “You scooted over, so your brother would have more space at the table. That was helpful!”
Try it at home with your child/children:
“You _______________, so _______________. That was helpful!”

Visit our Success By Six Resource Center!
I don't know if you know this-but we have an amazing SB-6 center located in our building! What is this you ask? It's like a library full of toys, games, books, and resources! You can bring your child for playgroups, story times, and check out fun toys to take home with you--just like checking books out from the library!
We are open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Stop by and check something out!
