Viking E-BLAST

All Saints Episcopal School - August 24, 2015

COMMUNITY

Welcome to our first Viking E-BLAST of the 2015-2016 school year! We hope everyone had a good couple of days last week and got lots of rest this weekend because we are in FULL SWING at All Saints!

It is time for "BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHTS!" Back-to-School events are an opportunity for parents to hear directly from the administration on pertinent issues, and get to know the philosophy of your child's teacher, as well as classroom plans for this year including activities, group projects, field trips, discipline policies, curriculum goals, etc. Due to limited space and rapid-paced content, this is a PARENTS ONLY event. Please see the schedule below and make plans to JOIN US!

MIDDLE SCHOOL PARENT NIGHT - August 25th (Tuesday)

6th Grade Parents - Begin in Mrs. Gartner's Class (Rm. 119)

SPIRITUALITY

Rev. Keith Giblin told us during his chapel talk last Thursday, "One of the many things that makes All Saints the BEST school is that we know to take care of FIRST THINGS FIRST... We start each day in prayer, praising God and thanking Him for a new day." Please be in prayer each day for All Saints Episcopal School, our families, students, faculty, staff and Board members throughout this school year. As Mrs. Scootie Clark likes to say, "You can't have a bad day if you begin it in chapel!" You are welcome to join us for either "little" chapel (PK3-K in the Gathering Area) or "big" chapel (1st-8th Grade in St. Stephen's sanctuary) anytime!

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

The All Saints faculty and staff inservice was a fantastic time for our teachers! We were blessed by our guest speaker, Bryan Harris, speaking to us on the topic of memory. This concept was a significant topic to explore for every grade level and/or subject matter, providing every teacher on campus with strategies to impact each student on campus. Matt Beard said, "This is the best inservice we have ever hosted at All Saints!" Carol Chenault said, "I implemented some new techniques in my classroom the first day which had an immediate impact!" Sheila Hilburn is currently using Bryan's theory of echoing or repeating to help Kindergartners remember new rules for the classroom. Teachers at every grade level have remarked that Bryan's suggestions for more physical movement in the classroom is helping students to increase their engagement as well as comprehension. The bottom line is.... YOUR CHILD is benefitting RIGHT NOW from the incredible teacher development opportunity that was made possible by all those who contributed last year to the Annual Fund, which proudly supports the academic excellence and pursuit of life-long learning for our teachers. THANK YOU, PARENTS, FOR HELPING US BETTER SERVE YOUR CHILDREN! For more about Bryan Harris, visit his website. www.bryan-harris.com
