Hello Jackson Families!
We are excited to host our Family STEM Night on Tuesday, November 8, from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. Come and enjoy hands-on science, technology, engineering and math activities in your child's grade level classrooms. We hope to see you there!
On Friday, November 11, we will be celebrating Veterans' Day with a school-wide assembly. Parents and other guests are invited to attend this assembly, but please arrive by 1:15 to allow time to check in at the front office.
Also Friday, 11/11, is Jackson Spirit Day at Raising Canes! What a great way to end a busy week--no cooking! Order from Cane's from 10:00 am to midnight, mention Jackson Spirit Day, and 15% of the sales will come back to Jackson PTA! Enjoy some tasty chicken fingers and give back to Jackson at the same time--it's a win-win!
Our Jackson PTA is participating in the National PTA School of Excellence program to help establish a strong partnership among our families, school leaders and community members. As part of the process, National PTA requests feedback from families, administrators and teachers at two points in the school year—the beginning and the end. They need our help by completing the beginning of the year survey at the links in the PTA section below. Your feedback will help us improve our family-school partnership and achieve excellence.
Jackson's Scholastic Book Fair will open Monday, November 14, through Friday, November 18. A preview flyer was sent home highlighting a selection of books that will be available at the Book Fair and a Book Fair flyer with more information is included below. As always, students will get a chance to preview the Book Fair merchandise and note their favorite books! This year's Book Fair hours are a little different due to an updated District policy regarding fundraisers. Students may not purchase items from the Book Fair during instructional times--only before school, at lunch or recess, or after school. Parents and guests are welcome at any time during the designated sales hours; but unless it is a non-instructional time, your child may not be able to accompany you. Our students always love the Book Fair and, when they are able to pick books they are interested in, it can inspire a lifetime love of reading! As the holidays approach, don't forget that books make a wonderful gift!
Daylight Savings Time ends at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 6. It's time fo "Fall Back" and turn your clocks back one hour.
Enjoy your weekend and extra hour of sleep!
Thank you!
Dr. Crystal Roach
Principal, Jackson Elementary

Veterans' Day Assembly and Wall of Honor
On November 11, we will be celebrating Veterans' Day with a school-wide assembly. Ashley Manley, one of our terrific PTA moms, will put together a slide show of pictures of Veterans that belong to our Jaguar families. If you would like to share a picture of a family member that is a Veteran, please send it by email to: manleyfamilytx@gmail.com.
We would also like to create a special tribute for the Veterans that are family members of Jackson students and staff by creating an honorary "brick" wall with the Veterans’ names and service branch. Flyers with the tribute brick template will be sent home next week.
Please return the completed brick(s) to school and turn them in to the office. We will start posting the "bricks" as soon as they are returned. The deadline to turn in the bricks is Friday, November 4th. We want to have our Wall of Honor ready for our Veterans' Day celebration!
We hope to acknowledge the Veterans of families in our Jackson community as well as celebrate all Veterans who have, so proudly, served our country.
NOVEMBER FITNESS CALENDAR
Our awesome P.E. coaches are sharing a monthly calendar with fitness challenges and other activities that promote the development of motor skills, physical fitness, and social skills. These activities can be done at home with family or friends. Have fun with fitness!
Counselors' Corner
Jaguar of the Month Program
Jaguar of the Month is a student reward program (grades K-5) that incorporates character traits from the website/program, Character First Education. A new character trait is introduced every month and students will engage in classroom discussions and activities to reinforce the trait. At the end of the month, each teacher will identify a student who consistently demonstrated the targeted trait. These students will be recognized on JagTube, receive a certificate, keychain and a Jackson Jaguar pencil. Grade level group photos will be displayed on the bulletin board near the front office AND Jaguars of the Month will attend a popsicle party with Dr. Roach, our principal!
The trait for November is Gratefulness. We will be discussing what gratefulness means and how students can exhibit the trait during classroom community circles. Keep up the good work, Jaguars!

National PTA School of Excellence - Survey
Dear Families, Administrators and Teachers:
The Jackson Elementary PTA knows that a strong partnership among our families, school leaders and community members is important to the success of our students and school. That’s why we are participating in the National PTA School of Excellence program, which grows partnerships between PTAs and schools to enrich the educational experience and overall well-being of all students.
At a National PTA School of Excellence, families feel welcomed and empowered to support student success, and PTA is a key partner for continuous school improvement. We feel Jackson Elementary and Jackson PTA can achieve that together—and the result will be national, state and community-wide visibility for the positive impact we are making together at Jackson.
We need your help! As part of the process, National PTA requests feedback from families, administrators and teachers at two points in the school year—the beginning and the end. Your feedback will help us improve our family-school partnership and achieve excellence.
Please take 5-10 minutes to reflect on your experience at this school and complete the survey at the link below. Mark an “X” in the box that most accurately expresses how you feel about your experience. This survey is completely anonymous. Please complete this survey by Friday, November 11th.
Does this sound like a PTA program you’d really like to help with? Join us! Contact Niki Roberts at JacksonPTA@gmail.com to learn more!
Thank you for your continued support and collaboration as we work toward becoming a National PTA School of Excellence!

Our students look forward to the Book Fair and choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them to become bolder, prouder, and stronger readers. To make the Book Fair a success, we need volunteers to help with the setup, sales, and cleanup. We would appreciate your help!
Butter Braids Fundraiser Results
First grade sold the most butter braids and have earned a popcorn party! Here are the totals:
Prek - 40%
K - 68%
1st - 115%
2nd - 104%
3rd - 101%
4th - 71%
5th - 19%
Our butter braid packages will be delivered to Jackson on Thursday, 11/3. We will not be able to deliver them to the classrooms. Parents will need to plan to come to school to pick up your child's sales right after school, starting at 2:30 near the front office. You must park in the parking lot (not carpool line) to come in. All packages will need to be refrigerated after being picked up.
Thank you to all of the students and staff for all that you did to make this an amazing fundraiser for our school. We sold $6,770.00 and our profits are $2708.00!!!! I am so very proud of our school for making this happen.

Dads can volunteer for as little as an hour on their day to help monitor recess, lunches, and outdoor/gym activities.
To get started, fill out a PISD Volunteer Application online. Once approved, use the PTA WATCH D.O.G.S. Calendar link (https://www.jacksonpta.com/volunteer/94352) to select your volunteer time.
