Cotton gin

*Made by Eli Whitney. Created to shorten the amount of time to pick seeds out of cotton.


*The invention picks seeds out of cotton. This solved the problem of cotton picking taking a very long time.

Timeline

December 8, 1765, Whitney is born. March 14, 1794, cotton gin is made. 1820's, cotton gin factories start appearing. From then on more modern cotton gins have been made.

How the Cotton Gin works.

Cotton balls are put into the machine, and the handle is turned. It is put through teeth that comb out the seeds. Then the cotton is pulled out and used. Although the Cotton gin is helpful, it increased the need for slaves when it was made

What Would It Be Like Without The Cotton Gin?

Clothes would be much more expensive without cotton gins. It would take much longer to pick the seeds out of cotton by hand. We might not get as much clothes as we need.

How It Impacts Me Today.

The cotton gin impacts me, because I have all the clothes I need. If the cotton gin wasn't around, clothes might be much more expensive. The cotton gin today is much bigger, and it can produce cotton without seeds, much faster.
