From the Principal's Desk
Greetings Falcon Families,
Our Saturday Camp will begin on Saturday, February 20th. This is a fabulous opportunity for students who want to strengthen their content knowledge in math, reading, writing, science, and social studies. Our Saturday Camp will run for ten Saturdays through the beginning of May. All Falcon participants will receive a breakfast taco, will be eligible for prizes, and those who attend eight or more Saturday camps will be able to participate in a field trip to exciting landmarks of Austin, Texas. For example, Barton Springs, Zilker Park, and the Umlauf Sculpture Garden. If you are interested in learning more about our Saturday Camp, please contact Ms. Michaud, 512.414.3207.
Tonight is our annual Valentine’s Day Dance that begins shortly after the dismissal bell and ends promptly at 5:15 p.m. so students can take the school bus home and it is still light outside for our walkers. We do not sell tickets at the dance; advanced purchase has been available to students during lunch this week.
During February Fulmore students will continue to take the second round of Middle of the Year Benchmark testing, referred to as MOY II. Students who are not testing will be participating in camps so that instruction continues. Students will rotate through the following stations – reading, math, science, and course selection process. The testing schedule is:
· February 24th – 8th grade science, 7th grade camp, 6th grade social studies
· February 25th – 8th grade social studies, 7th grade camp, 6th grade camp
· February 29th – all grades math
· March 1st – all grades reading
Here are several tips so that you can help prepare your child for successful testing:
· Set a regular bed time that allows nine to ten hours of sleep each night. To get a good night’s rest only before the test is not good enough; sleep habits must be regular.
· Have a well-balanced diet that includes plenty of water.
· Talk with your child about the importance of doing his/her best at all times and that extra attention to details during assessments is a must! Assessments are an opportunity for students to show off what they know and an opportunity for teachers to see where strengths and/or areas of growth are still needed for instructional purposes.
· Encourage your child to take their time during assessments; however, day dreaming and napping are not acceptable. STAAR is a timed test, and we want students to get in the practice of self-pacing.
Once again, Fulmore Middle School needs you as one of our PTA officers. Positions are open for next school year and we are asking parents to please volunteer for an officer position or committee leader. If you are interested in learning more, please email FulmoreMiddleSchoolPTA@gmail.com. The past few years PTA & PTA Officers have been a few, wonderful, outstanding core group of parents and we need more people involved with our effort of supporting Fulmore Middle School. We look forward to your interest and participation.
Enjoy the weekend.

Summer Camps
We have started receiving information about some of the amazing summer camps around the Austin area! All information about these camps (including scholarship and reduced fee opportunities) will be available on the Fulmore Counseling website, as well as described in brief in the Fulmore Parent Newsletter in the coming weeks!!!!
Library Line
The Fulmore Library is very excited to announce that the author of the Divergent Series, Veronica Roth, will be visiting Fulmore Middle School on Tuesday, March 8th, 2016. Ms. Roth will be giving a short presentation and then will answer questions from students.
This event is one of only three visits she will be making in Austin area schools that day, all made possible by Austin’s favorite independent bookstore, BookPeople.
Her presentation will begin at 11:40 and last approximately 35 minutes, including the Q & A session.
Students and their families will have the opportunity to purchase books with cash or check through an order form provided by the Fulmore Librarian. Those wishing to pay by credit/debit card can do so online via bookpeopleschools.squarespace.com. This information is provided on the order form.
We are tremendously excited to be able to provide this opportunity to our students.

In keeping with the spirit of Valentine’s Day this month, let’s all SHOW OUR LOVE!! Here are some upcoming events and opportunities:
1. Fulmore Dance on Friday, February 12
· Mr. Ryan MacKenzie is seeking $150 in donations to pay for pizza to be sold at the dance. Please consider sending a donation his way; contribution envelopes with his name on them can be dropped off at the main office or delivered directly to him.
· The goal of the pizza sales is to offset costs for the end-of-year 8th-grade field trip. A location has not yet been determined and depends, in part, on available funding. We’d like for all kids to have the opportunity to enjoy a fun outing, and all funds raised can be used to help cover expenses.
2. Box-Tops for Education Spring Contest
· Fulmore is collecting for the Spring Contest through February 24th! We need everyone to bring in box tops and any bonus certificates they have. Last semester, 6th graders really stepped up but 7th and 8th were way behind.
· In other news, in our very first semester, Fulmore is 4th in collections compared to the other AISD middle schools! 3rd place is only slightly ahead of us (but 5th and 6th are even closer to us). Rankings are shown on our FaceBook page.
· If everyone brought in even a few, it would really add up. Some people may not think it’s worth it to send in 4 or 5 but it totally is!
