Jackson Newsletter
March
Dear Jackson Families,
Fourth quarter is almost here! We are looking forward to a great spring with our jaguars and Jackson families.
Conferences are March 29 or 30. Our goal is 100% attendance for student-led conferences. Look for an email to sign-up for conferences. Call the office if you need assistance. During the first 10 minutes of the conference, your child will share their learning with you. This portion will be student-led in one classroom. Then you will be able to meet with the English and Spanish teacher for the last 10 minutes in the other classroom. We look forward to partnering with you during conferences. Report cards will go home on March 10.
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming. Please shop with your family during conferences. We will share a link to shop online as well. A portion of all sales supports Jackson.
Spring Break is March 13 - 17. Please encourage your child to read each day. We encourage them to also complete 30 minutes of learning on their digital resources each day (Amira/Lexia, iRead, Successmaker, or Paper Missions) and get outside to play.
State Tests (NSCAS) in grades 3-6 will begin in April. Students will participate in NCSAS English Language Arts and Math. Fifth grade students will also take a science test. Please encourage your child to do their best each day and grow in their learning to prepare for these assessments.
Be sure your student wears appropriate clothing for the weather. Please reach out to Ms. Sisavanh, the counselor, for winter clothing resources. We go outside for recess everyday unless it is raining, snowing, high winds, or feels like 20 degrees or colder.
Thank you for following the traffic flow during arrival and dismissal. Please remember, do not use the top section of the bus lane when cones are reserving for the bus. Do not park in the bus lane. If you need to park, please use the parking lot to the west or park in the neighborhood. Only cross with students at the crosswalks. The north alley is reserved for daycare.
School attendance is very important. Students should attend school regularly, on time, and all day. If your child is sick, please call the office, 531-299-1620, to report the absence. Do not send your child to school if they are sick.
Please check your child's backpack each morning to make sure only school items are inside. They should bring their iPad to school each day.

WELLNESS TIP OF THE MONTH
Daily Light Savings Time is March 12.
Now is a good time to remember how important a good night's sleep is for your child. Sleep is a vital need, essential to a child's health and growth. Sleep promotes alertness, memory, and performance. Children who are well rested are more likely to function better and are less prone to behavioral problems and moodiness. It is important for parents to help their children develop good sleeping habits. How much sleep should children get? Age 3-5 = 11-13 hours; Age 5-12 = 9-12 hours of sleep. For good sleeping habits for children, the #1 tip is to follow a nightly routine. A bedtime routines makes it easier for your child to relax, fall asleep, and stay asleep through the night. Think about making reading a book part of the nightly routine.

Interested in Volunteering?
Please use link to complete the volunteer application:
https://omaha.tedk12.com/hire/ViewJob.aspx?JobID=11509
All adults who wish to volunteer during the school day on a school campus or chaperone day field trips, and district sponsored activity with students need to complete the application BEFORE volunteering with students or in the building. The required Volunteer Application allows the District and the schools to provide the appropriate level of clearance for school volunteers, protecting our students. Level 3 volunteering requires a background check.
All volunteers must reapply each school year to be considered for volunteer opportunities.
