Parent and Community Newsletter
Dayton Business Technology High School, Winter 2023
Family and Community Update
On behalf of the Dayton Business Technology High School Board of Education, staff and students we would like to thank you for all of your wonderful support during the first half of the year. Your support has allowed us to provide our students with many wonderful experiences. Pictured within this newsletter you will see many examples of the great opportunities being provided to our students due to your support and commitment. This newsletter will share a few of the highlights of our school year and also announce exciting future opportunties for our students
On December 16, 2021, Dayton Business Technology High School kicked off its first Trimester Awards Assembly. More than 30 students were recognized for Honor Roll, Attendance Awards and our Puma Awards which focuses on demonstrating our core values. As you can see from the picture we had standing room only. In attendance were community partners, board members, family members and friends.
We are also excited about our continued partnership with the Dayton Chess Club, which has provided chess lessons to our students for the second year in row on Wednesdays after school and every Saturday. This year the DBTHS Competition Chess team worked in collaboration with the Dayton Chess club to sponsor a city wide chess tournament which attracted more than 40 chess enthusiasts from around the region.
In December of 2022, we kicked off our first Basketball program in collaboration with the Dakota Center. We would like to thank Mr. Mark Nelms for serving as our coach and Ms. Quiana Bicham for arranging for transportation and the use of the Dakota Center gym. This program has helped students learn teamwork, citizenship and how to be scholar athletes.
College and Career Readiness
It is our goal to make sure all students are college and career ready. Our new industry credentialing camp initiative allows students to simultaneously earn their high school diploma while also earning in demand credentials. We would like to thank our new partner Ms. Nicole Watts, owner and operator WattsCare LLC., who has been providing our students with the opportunity to earn their Phlebotomy License while completing their required graduation credits. We are pleased to announce that 14 students have now earned their phlebotomy credentials which counts towards 12 Industry Credentials towards graduation thanks to this valuable partnership. The next class will begin in January 2023.
We also are pleased to announce another partnership that will provide our students the opportunity to become licensed Drone Pilots, through the Federal Aviation Administration. Mr. Henry Knight III, owner and operator of HK3 Drone Certifications will be our instructor. Students will have the opportunity to work in a wide variety of fields such as law enforcement, media, emergency medical field, sports media, entertainment and much much more using this license.
We would like to thank all parents for trusting their children with us and our community partners for working collaboratively to help all of our students succeed.
