WLWV School Board Briefs
Aug. 14, 2018
The West Linn-Wilsonville School Board held a regular meeting on Monday, Aug. 13. The following are select highlights from that meeting.
District Receives $100,000 Donation from Education Foundation

District Provides Update on Medicaid Billing Information
By billing Medicaid directly, the district has found a new way to access available federal funds for health services in schools. The district will bill Medicaid directly for health services that are provided as part of an Individualized Education Plan. A child and family's insurance benefits will in NO WAY be impacted by providing consent.
The new method will provide additional funding that will allow for increased health resources and services, ensuring that ALL students have access to their education and needed health services.
She explained that parents will receive a consent form in the mail as part of their Special Education Paperwork. Parent consent in NO WAY impacts insurance benefits and allows the district to continue to provide the high-quality services that students and families have come to expect. For more information, families can access the Student Services Department on the district website, or call the WLWV Student Services Department at 503-673-7618.
Business Office, District Receives Governmental Financial Reporting Award for 25th-Straight Year
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
The CAFR is judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.
Board Appoints Four Members to the Long Range Planning Committee
The Board also appointed new members to the Long Range Planning Committee, which is tasked with providing a framework for evaluating and addressing future school facility needs through the creation of the district’s Long Range Plan. The Board had six applicants to consider for four openings on the seven-member Long Range Planning Committee.
The Board appointed Mike Jones to Position 1, Grady Nelson to Position 3, Kim Jordan to Position 5, and David Lake to Position 7. Jones and Lake will serve two-year terms through June 30, 2020, while Jordan and Nelson will serve three-year terms through June 30, 2021.
“This is a difficult decision because we have six great applicants and only four spots on the Long Range Planning Committee,” said Chair Ginger Fitch. “We thank all of these terrific applicants and encourage you to stay involved with this school district. Volunteering for a committee such as this is a large commitment and we appreciate your willingness to be part of the Long Range Planning Committee.”
Board Welcomes Chief Financial Officer Son Le Hughes; West Linn High School Principal Greg Neuman
Hughes was most recently the Assistant Director of Finance at the University of Oregon. She's also held positions at Oregon State University, Linn-Benton Community College, and Eugene School District, providing her with a wealth of experience in both K-12 education as well as higher education. She is currently completing her Ph.D. in Leadership from Oregon State University.
Neuman was also introduced to the Board on Monday night, coming to the district from Yamhill High School where he served as principal for the past four years. He spent 16 years before that in roles of teacher, coach, and assistant principal in a variety of school districts across Oregon.
Board Appoints Chair and Vice Chair for 2018-19 School Year
