Pleasant Knoll Middle School - October Edition
Message from Administration
Hi PKMS Families,
We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. Our teachers and students have been doing a fantastic job both at school and virtually. With the end of the 1st quarter approaching, please remember that we are here to help. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to our teachers, administration, or counselors.
Thank you parents for your continuous support. We look forward to a great November together.
Go Knighthawks,

COVID Protocols
If your student has taken a Covid test or is waiting on the results of a family member’s test, the following protocols will need to be followed:
· If a student has received a Covid test, they will go on our 10 day isolation list.
· They may NOT return to school while the Covid test results are pending.
Please let us know as soon as you receive the test results.
· The student will be allowed to return to school with a negative result in hand (the documentation needs to have the students name, test result, and location of testing on it. We cannot accept a voicemail or text message result) and if they are feeling better/fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medicine. The result may be emailed to Tamara Osborne (our district Covid-19 Response Coordinator), PKMS Admin. or Nurse Young here at PKMS.
· If your student comes to school and we have not received the proof of a negative Covid test result, they will be removed from the classroom until the result is received.
· If they have a positive result, we will need to know this IMMEDIATELY and this will require a 10 day isolation from onset of their symptoms.
· As for all of the student’s school work, we would recommend reaching out to their team of teachers to request they send their work in Google Classroom. The student will work at home, as they would on their independent days until they are cleared to return to school.
· YOUR STUDENT MAY NOT PARTICIPATE IN ANY SPORTS/SPORTS PRACTICES OR AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ON ANY FMSD CAMPUS DURING THIS ISOLATION PERIOD.
**If your student is quarantined because they are considered to be a house hold contact or a close contact to someone that has tested positive, they will have to complete the entire quarantine period. A negative COVID test will not change their return date.

Nurse News
Notes from the nurse
Influenza (also known as the flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by flu viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. The flu is different from a cold. The flu usually comes on suddenly. You get the flu from other people. The flu virus spreads through coughing or sneezing. It is also spread when a person touches something that a sick person has touched, and then touches their eyes, nose or mouth. People who have the flu often feel some or all of these symptoms:
•Fever* or feeling feverish/chills
•Cough
•Sore throat
•Runny or stuffy nose
•Muscle or body aches
•Headaches
•Fatigue (tiredness)
•Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.
* It's important to note that not everyone with flu will have a fever.
Flu viruses usually cause the most illness during the colder months of the year. However, influenza can also occur outside of the typical flu season. In addition, other viruses can also cause respiratory illness similar to the flu. So, it is impossible to tell for sure if you have the flu based on symptoms alone. Please follow up with a Physician for further testing to know for sure whether you have the flu or other respiratory illnesses.
The best way to prevent the flu is by getting vaccinated each year along with washing hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
This applies to virtual students as well.
