Career & Technical Education
October 2020 Newsletter
Note From The Director's Chair:
The CTE Department hopes this newsletter finds each of you healthy, safe, and embracing the new opportunities through virtual learning. The CTE coordinators are here to provide instructional support and resources to assist you in meeting the demands of teaching during these unique circumstances.
Over the summer, our CTE team worked on numerous districtwide initiatives to ensure student success this year. In June and July, we worked on a districtwide initiative to create curriculum video content in collaboration with KERA to help support student learning. Videos aired Monday through Friday in the month of July to help promote student learning during the summer. Several CTE teachers worked to create curriculum content to support online learning for the 2020-21 school year. Those course resources can be found at CTE Curriculum Resource Projects . The CTE team also deployed to various Dallas ISD campuses to assist in the deployment of technology to students across the district.
CTE team members have also worked tirelessly to support the implementation of three Career Institutes in Dallas ISD. Supported by the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees, Career Institutes (North, South, East) have opened with state-of-the-art technology equipment to advance the College and Career Readiness initiatives and Dallas area Business and Industry needs.
Our goal this year is to increase the number of state approved A-F CTE student certifications earned in grades 9 – 12 from 968 – 1800 by June 2021. Working together to reach this goal will assist your campus to increase CCMR student performance indicators in the student achievement domain.
Collaboration has been the driving agent as we all work together towards a common goal in developing future leaders. As we continue to support our Dallas ISD colleagues including Middle and High School CTE teachers through CTSO’s, NAF academies, Industry Businesses Partnerships, Certifications, and Career Institutes, our students will recognize their dreams and become our future leaders. Welcome back, stay safe, and know each of you matter to us.

AC Horn Manufacturing Virtual Tour for Manufacturing Day
Manufacturing Day is an annual event held to inspire the next generation of manufacturers and educate the public at large on the importance of the role manufacturers play in our daily lives and the growing skill shortage, despite the high volume of job openings in the sector. The first Manufacturing Day was held in 2012, with growing participation throughout the U.S. since that time. The purpose of this event was to raise awareness by promoting modern manufacturing practices and jumpstart new approaches to growing the manufacturing talent pool.
During this year's Manufacturing Day 2020 event held on Friday, October 2, 2020, over 250 CTE students enrolled in Zan Wesley Holmes, L.G. Pinkston, Seagoville, Skyline and Career Institutes North and South campuses explored the world of manufacturing by participating in a virtual facility tour of industry partner AC Horn Manufacturing with President & CEO Michael E. Horn, Jr. Check out the full tour at https://youtu.be/Yp06CsDXtGM.
