Happy 4th of July!
from Madison Wood
From the desk of Phil Fortson:
July 1st 2016 is here already?!?!
Last February the AWPA changed the standards for UC4A (ground contact). Those changes will be officially written into the specs this Friday July 1st 2016. The new standards released by the AWPA recommend that current above ground treated lumber applications must now adhere to (UC4A) ground contact requirements when they’re:
· Difficult to maintain, repair or replace.
· Installed less than six inches from the ground.
· at risk for poor air circulation.
· likely to have prolonged contact with vegetation or leaf litter.
· exposed to frequent moisture.
· used in tropical climates.
If you are a Madison Wood customer, then this is not news or a problem because Madison has been 100% ground contact since March 1st 2016. If you are not a Madison customer then these new standards will affect the building codes as we go forward, and the transition to 100% ground contact ( yes , even decking & fence boards ) is vital for future code compliance, product reliability and consumer safety.
