We have had a lot of wonderful things going on at Findley Oaks. On Monday, October 28, we celebrated National First Responders Day with a heroes walk. Thanks to Chriss Kolls for organizing this great event! On Friday, November 1, our Teacher of the Year, Karen Reed was honored at the Fulton County Schools Legacy of Excellence event at the Georgia World Congress Center. Congratulations to Karen Reed!
Thanks to Roseburg, A Forest Products Company in Johns Creek, for donating a Little Gem Magnolia Tree. The tree was planted near the front circle outside of the kindergarten wing.

District Calendar Changes
At its work session on October 10, the Fulton County School Board approved making April 21, 2020, and May 19, 2020, “Digital Learning Days” for students while maintaining them as regular work days for employees. A Digital Learning Day is an opportunity for students to engage in off-site learning instead of attending school.
Since April 21 and May 19 are state-wide election days, there is high-volume participation of the public at polling stations located in our schools, and this increases the potential for security concerns. By utilizing digital learning activities, students will be able to maintain their focus on instruction even though they are not on campus.
Here is a summary of the recent calendar adjustments:
· March 13, 2020 remains a teacher workday.
· March 24, 2020 (GA Presidential primary election) will be a teacher workday.
· April 21, 2020 (state-wide election) will be a student Digital Learning Day and a teacher professional development day.
· May 19, 2020 (state-wide election) will be a student Digital Learning Day and a teacher professional development day.

♦♦♦♦
Dear Findley Families,
We will be hosting a Follett Book Fair in November.
A Book Fair serves two main purposes.
1) To help instill a love of reading in children by building their personal libraries.
2) To raise funds for the Media Center to expand the collection of books and incorporate new technology for all students to enjoy.
Focus on Books
Follett is an educational company that has been working with schools for more than 140 years. A large part of their business is selling books to school libraries, including Fulton County Schools’ over the years. Because of this, the focus of the fair is on providing high-quality, well-priced books and less on trinkets.
At the fair, you and your student will see a broad selection of fiction and nonfiction from a wide range of publishers. The trinkets are limited to a small sampling of pencils, erasures, and journals. Fliers will be sent home before the fair with a showcasing a selection of the books that will be featured.
Shopping and Payment
Your child will visit the Book Fair with his or her class and have the chance to make a purchase at that time. You may join your student during his or her scheduled shopping time. (A class schedule will be sent home to you before the fair.) All purchases are tax free. We accept credit cards, checks payable to Findley Oaks Elementary, and cash.

Message From the Counselor, Kate Hernandez
Read About It!
Here are some books to help your child learn more about responsibility:
- I Just Forgot by Mercer Mayer
- But It’s Not My Fault by Julia Cook
- The Paperboy by Dav Pilkey
- The Pigsty by Mark Teague
Practice It!
Help your child to practice responsibility by giving him/her special jobs. Let your child pick a chore each week that they can be responsible for such as carrying the groceries, wiping the counters or feed your pet.
Talk About It!
Here are some discussion points to help you talk about responsibility with your child:
- What do you think responsibility means and why is it important?
- Tell me about a time when it was difficult to be responsible.
- What is a way you would like to have more responsibility at home?
- What are your responsibilities in the classroom and in our community?
Thank you for your support and for helping our students to become more responsible!
