News from Mrs. Williams' Class

We notice things.

Starting Regular Curriculum

Next week, we will begin our spelling and vocabulary instruction. Spelling homework will come home on Monday, along with suggestions for how to work with the words. Kids will be tested on 12 of the words on Friday. Ten will be on a list, 2 will be surprises.

We also will begin vocabulary instruction. Each week, 8 robust vocabulary words will be introduced and studied, again to be tested each Friday. Kids don't have to know how to read them, only know what they mean.

Finally, there will be 5-6 sight words to learn to read each week.

Both the Robust Vocabulary and the Words to Know will be sent home from school on Monday for you to reinforce at home during the week.

Science and Social Studies

We are learning about the States of Matter in Science. Next week, we will be describing the properties of solids and thinking about which properties would be important if we were building a bridge or a tower.

In Social Studies we will be talking about citizenship and the Bill of Rights.

Reminders...

You should have received an invitation to sign up for conferences on Sign Up Genius. It will be fun to meet again, now that I know your children a little better. Conference dates are October 6, 8, & 13.

Picture Day is coming soon - October 5. Always tricky to remember when it is on a Monday.

Last, we have subscribed to Weekly Reader. This is a non fiction newspaper we enjoy reading on Fridays. We are asking each family to contribute $5.00 to pay for this fun piece of reading that teaches us about the world around us. Checks can be made to Lester Park.
