Greetings Sauk Centre School-Community and Stakeholders!
It has been a great start to the school year in the Sauk Centre community education department! We are pleased that our new and existing classes and activities went over well. Thanks to everyone who participated in our classes and activities!
Thank you to our fall coaches, instructors and volunteers for helping with volleyball, football, and basketball. It is great to see so many adults and recent alumni giving of their time and investing in our youth. Thanks to our volunteer coaches Jill Klaphake, Jordan Halvorson, Amanda Weir, Jim Klaphake, Charlie Warring, Rick Meier, Kevin Kuefler, Scott Bergman.

Welding Camp @ Felling Trailers
January 4,5,6,10,11,12 & 13. 3:15-4:30pm. This camp allows students to explore career opportunities and requirements of a professional metal fabricator! The content emphasizes on the development of beginner level skills, key to the success of working in the welding industry. Students will study workplace safety, basic manufacturing processes, and basic print reading skills. There will be a project to complete to a spec that the students will be able to take home at the end of the term. Goals will include: Introduce students to proper safety in the workplace environment. Introduce students basic skills required in the manufacturing industry. Camp for ages 12-18 and fee is $8. Babysitter Training Course
February 18, 8:30am-4:00pm; Babysitting 101: This 7.5 hour course for 10-15 year olds follows the American Academy of Pediatrics –Babysitter Lessons And Safety Training (BLAST). Students learn current practices for safety and injury prevention, first aid basics, feeding and caring for infants, how to handle behavior problems, and how to manage their babysitting business. Students receive a reference book, game handouts, babysitting bag and first aid kit. Fee is $60. https://isd743.revtrak.net/rw-community-education/
Drivers Ed Classroom Training
Our next class will begin February 28. We are waiting to hear back if this class can be done via Zoom. We will have official word by January 1. This 30 hour course is being taught by the Sauk Centre Driving School.
After School Science Camp
Lessons/Intro to Pickleball
These classes will have limited participation so you will be able to ask questions, feel very comfortable and have a maximized experience. Our goal is that you will get acclimated with the game and feel comfortable to play with the adults that get together on Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons if you like. We will provide paddles and balls for you to use. All you need to bring is athletic shoes and a comfortable workout attire. Fee is $8. **If the class if full, please register to be put on the waitlist. We will try to get creative and accommodate your interest! Hypertufa Planters
Learn how to make a Hypertufa planter perfect for succulents or cactus. They also make great outdoor pots and are lightweight and a long lasting concrete blend. All supplies included! Fee is $25.
Chicken Enchiladas with Salsa Verde
Join us for a evening of delicious dishes from El Salvador! Karen Martinson from Prado House of Cookies will teach how to make Chicken Enchiladas with Salsa Verde (Soft fry tortilla stuffed with chicken, rice, salsa Verde and cheese) Guacamole side dish. Fee is $45.
Winter Sowing
Join us to learn how to grow seeds in the winter time outdoors in Minnesota! You will receive all the information and supplies to start your own ”mini greenhouses”. They will be set outside in the snow to let mother nature take its course, the ”crock pot” method of seed starting! Fee is $25.
Sauk River Watershed Courses
The Many Minnesota Milkweeds- April 26, 6:30-8:00pm. We have over a dozen Milkweeds that are native to Minnesota. Let’s chat about the wide variety of these great pollinator plants! Some are wildly popular and very common growing in gardens and local sceneries. We also will discuss where to buy milkweed plants and seed, plus how and where to add these pollinator magnets to your landscapes. Participants will receive an informational folder full of great publications, and several door prizes will be given away from local plant specialists. Fee is $8.
