Greetings Sauk Centre School-Community and Stakeholders!

It has been a great start to the school year in the Sauk Centre community education department! We are pleased that our new and existing classes and activities went over well. Thanks to everyone who participated in our classes and activities!


Thank you to our fall coaches, instructors and volunteers for helping with volleyball, football, and basketball. It is great to see so many adults and recent alumni giving of their time and investing in our youth. Thanks to our volunteer coaches Jill Klaphake, Jordan Halvorson, Amanda Weir, Jim Klaphake, Charlie Warring, Rick Meier, Kevin Kuefler, Scott Bergman.

Welding Camp @ Felling Trailers

January 4,5,6,10,11,12 & 13. 3:15-4:30pm. This camp allows students to explore career opportunities and requirements of a professional metal fabricator! The content emphasizes on the development of beginner level skills, key to the success of working in the welding industry. Students will study workplace safety, basic manufacturing processes, and basic print reading skills. There will be a project to complete to a spec that the students will be able to take home at the end of the term. Goals will include: Introduce students to proper safety in the workplace environment. Introduce students basic skills required in the manufacturing industry. Camp for ages 12-18 and fee is $8. Junk Drawer Robotics

February 3 & 10. The activities of Junk Drawer Robotics make science, engineering, and technology engaging by encouraging youth to use the processes and approaches of science; the planning and conceptual design of engineering; and the application of technology in their personal portfolios of skills and abilities. Fee is $14 and supplies are included. Grades 4-6; 3:15-5:00 in room 123. Instructors: 4-H/Youth Development Educators, Todd County Extension. https://isd743.revtrak.net/rw-community-education/

7/8 Backcourt Boys Basketball

January 3 - February 26:- This is an optional backcourt basketball program. This is a great opportunity to play an extended season while working on your skills and competing against some good competition, all while having some fun! Parents are responsible for transportation. Practices will be on Mondays and Thursdays, 5:00-7:00 in the MPR unless otherwise noted. Fee is $25. Tentative competition schedule:

8th Grade- January 15 @ Brooten 9:00; January 22 @ Osakis HS 1:45; February 5 @ Paynesville 9:45.
7th Grade- January 22 @ Osakis 1:00; January 29 @ EVW HS 9:45; February 5 @ Minnewaska 9:00.

Babysitter Training Course

February 18, 8:30am-4:00pm; Babysitting 101: This 7.5 hour course for 10-15 year olds follows the American Academy of Pediatrics –Babysitter Lessons And Safety Training (BLAST). Students learn current practices for safety and injury prevention, first aid basics, feeding and caring for infants, how to handle behavior problems, and how to manage their babysitting business. Students receive a reference book, game handouts, babysitting bag and first aid kit. Fee is $60. https://isd743.revtrak.net/rw-community-education/

Drivers Ed Classroom Training

Our next class will begin February 28. We are waiting to hear back if this class can be done via Zoom. We will have official word by January 1. This 30 hour course is being taught by the Sauk Centre Driving School.

After School Science Camp

March 3- Youth will get to experiment with science-based fun! Your child will learn science while doing fun activities, playing games, or participating in cool experiments with basic household items. Students will have a blast learning, while socializing with others. Fee is $9. Grades 3-5; 3:15pm-5pm in the FACS room. https://isd743.revtrak.net/rw-community-education/

Lessons/Intro to Pickleball

Have you ever wanted to try Pickleball or get some lessons on this popular game? This is the offering for you! Pickleball is a fun and addictive game that is played on a badminton-size court. It combines many elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players.

These classes will have limited participation so you will be able to ask questions, feel very comfortable and have a maximized experience. Our goal is that you will get acclimated with the game and feel comfortable to play with the adults that get together on Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons if you like. We will provide paddles and balls for you to use. All you need to bring is athletic shoes and a comfortable workout attire. Fee is $8. **If the class if full, please register to be put on the waitlist. We will try to get creative and accommodate your interest! Sauk River Watershed Courses

Living Fences- March 3, 6:30-8:00pm. Natural fences constructed of shrubbery, tall flowers, and clumping grasses are attractive and environmentally friendly. These living fences add an eye-catching way to define your property boundaries, while also adding pollinator plants that serve as effective privacy screens. Good fences make for good neighbors….and good habitat! Participants will receive an informational folder full of great publications, and several door prizes will be given away from local plant specialists. The Many Minnesota Milkweeds- April 26, 6:30-8:00pm. We have over a dozen Milkweeds that are native to Minnesota. Let’s chat about the wide variety of these great pollinator plants! Some are wildly popular and very common growing in gardens and local sceneries. We also will discuss where to buy milkweed plants and seed, plus how and where to add these pollinator magnets to your landscapes. Participants will receive an informational folder full of great publications, and several door prizes will be given away from local plant specialists. Fee is $8.
