Week 21: Feb. 1-5, 2016
Wow what a week
Get excited and mark your calendars for our first TCE FAMILY S.T.E.A.M. NIGHT on Friday, February 5th from 5:30-7:30pm. STEAM is an educational term to describe real world opportunities for students to learn with science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math. At the TCE FAMILY STEAM NIGHT, TCE students and their family members of all ages are welcome to come and participate in a variety of unique, educational STEAM experiences. Participants will travel as a family (children with their adults) to share in the learning process! Pizza will be available in the cafeteria for families to purchase. More details will be forthcoming! We hope you plan to be there!
I look forward to seeing you here for this event. I can't wait.
TuTu Tuesday or Two Two Tuesday!
Tuesday, February 2nd will be TuTu Tuesday!!! February 2nd will not occur again on a Tuesday until after 2020.
Some ideas for commemorating this historical day would be to:
- Wear a tutu!
- Wear a shirt with 2 on it (sports shirts are great)
- Simply take some masking tape and tape 2's all over a shirt or outfit
- Wear TWO of something, 2 bows, 2 pairs of socks, 2 hats, etc.
- Make a construction paper headband and decorate it with punch out 2s
- OR LET YOUR KIDS BRAINSTORM IDEAS!!
Global Day of Play - this Wednesday!
On February 3rd, we will participate in the Global Day of Play here at TCE. On this day, please send your child's favorite board or card game to school with them. Please make sure that you have your child's name on their item and have it in a sack or baggie. During this time your child will be playing games, Legos, blocks, puzzles, magnets, and any other items that they can freely play with. During this time the children will not be using their devices. Instead they will be enjoying free play time where they can move freely around from activity to activity just playing. I will be playing alongside the children during this time. The goal for this day is to encourage children to play freely without adult intervention or structure.
For more information about this day visit, http://www.globalschoolplayday.com/
Pennies for Patients -next 2 weeks!
Thorpe Creek Elementary students will be taking part in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Pennies for Patients program from February 1-12. Students will learn about service, leadership, philanthropy and how they can make a difference by changing patients’ lives. TCE has its own online giving page that students, parents and faculty can share with friends and family: http://events.lls.org/pages/in/ThorpeCreekElementarySchool
Thank you in advance for helping LLS to create a world without blood cancers!

Valentine's Day Party
Dear Parents or Guardians of Mrs. Yoder's class,
The classroom Valentine party will be held on Friday, 2/12 from 1:45-2:45.
Kindly email Brianna Belford email@example.com or Janet Walker firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to attend and volunteer at the party. Please note that it is TCE policy that siblings may not attend. Your student will not be allowed to leave with you at the end of the party. All volunteers attending must have a current background check on file with the school office and must have watched the anti-bullying video.
The children will be participating in a Valentine Exchange with their classmates that day. Please send 23 valentines for the class. Please have your child just sign their names to these. Do not address them to anyone. Thank you, this helps the passing out process run much smoother. STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DISTRIBUTE BALLOONS, CANDY, OR FOOD IN THEIR VALENTINES!!!! If your child brings a valentine with those items, they will not be allowed to give them out to the other students. (Also, please do not address the individual valentines to the other students as it takes FOREVER to pass them out into the bags and the party is only 1 hour- thank you!!)
Please be advised that we will be using Cheerios, cinnamon candies, and candy hearts for a project and take home kit during the party. These ARE NOT for eating. If you have any concerns about this, please let me/us know.
Thank you so much for your participation!! Please feel free to email with any questions!!
TCE Cardinal Runners
Join our school team and be a Cardinal Runner!
May 21, 2016
The Geist Half Marathon Inc. is an Indiana non-profit corporation organized to inspire health and wellness in the children surrounding Geist Reservoir. Money from last year’s race was donated to HSE and Lawrence Township Schools.
If your child (or you!) would like to participate in this year’s race as a part of the “Cardinal Runners” team, please return the emailed permission slip and race fee by March 28, 2016. Our school team will be walking and running in the 5K (3.1 miles) race. The cost to participate in the Cardinal Runner team is $37.50. Please make checks payable to TCE. The registration fee for the race includes a fee of $7.50 for a “Cardinal Runners” team shirt. Let’s show our school spirit by wearing our Cardinal Runners shirt on race day! *If you have last year’s Cardinal Runner shirt, you can re-wear it. The entry fee is $30, then, without the Cardinal Runner shirt. Each participant also receives a Geist 5K shirt, refreshments at the finish line, and a medal! Additional race information can be found at http://geisthalf.com/. We will register all students and parents that participate on our Cardinal Runners team at one time, so please do not register through the website. If your child may need financial assistance in order to participate, please contact Mrs. Curran.
I will be sending home information in the spring about an optional training walking/running program at school, along with additional race day details. I look forward to running with a large group of the Thorpe Creek Elementary Family!

Mr. Clint Cushman
