Delran High School Broadcast

A Message from Mr. Finkle!
I hope that everyone has been well and looking forward to the close of the school year. Each year it is bittersweet for me as I say goodbye to relationships that I have formed for four years, knowing that I did my best to support and prepare for the future. I also look forward to the summer when I can refuel and plan for the next school year. Enough about my philosophical stuff, let's talk about the important stuff about DHS!
It is so sad to see such great educators depart DHS and head into retirement. Over the past 10 years, I have formed such close bonds with each of them and they have guided and supported so many students in Delran for even longer.
Mr. Rood-Ojalvo, known to the students as "Rood" will be stepping down after an amazing career here at DHS. He was instrumental in our computer programming department and also taught Physics. I wish him the best in retirement.
Ms. Carey will be retiring after a great career as both a teacher and counselor! Her support and advocacy for students cannot go unsaid. She truly cares for each and every student on her caseload and will be the first to step up and support her students. Ms. Carey was also the financial advisor for the Yearbook and I know that she will be sorely missed in that capacity as well. I wish her the greatest of times as she too retires.
Mr. Croly will be leaving Delran High School after serving the students of Delran! Mr. Croly is a fixture at DHS and will be sorely missed. His service spans decades as he has served as a teacher, coach, counselor, class advisor, confidant, and friend to so many. His students are better for having been guided by the soul of DHS. He will be missed as a colleague and I wish him nothing but the best in his retirement.
Student Schedules for 2022-23
TENTATIVE schedules for the 2022-23 school year will be given out at the close of 9th period tomorrow! The counseling staff will be changing this summer; however, do not be concerned. The new counselors will be starting over the summer and Mr. Stolarick, Dr. Bowen, and I are available to support your child any way we can. I will also be sending home a copy with the final report cards in case your child has misplaced his/her/their copy. Please note that any change must be made by July 31st. There are no exceptions to this deadline.
Since the only students who have participated in Final Exams at DHS are the Seniors, I wish to take some time to explain the procedures and expectations.
First and foremost, the schedule is as follows:
- Friday, June 10th 7:30 - 9:30 Period 1
- Monday June 13th 7:30 - 9:30 Period 2
- Monday June 13th 10:00 - 12:00 Period 5
- Tuesday June 14th 7:30 - 9:30 Period 3
- Tuesday June 14th 10:00 - 12:00 Period 6
- Wednesday June 15th 7:30 - 9:30 Period 4
- Wednesday June 15th 10:00 - 12:00 Period 7
- Thursday June 16th 7:30 - 9:30 Period 9
- Thursday June 16th 10:00 - 12:00 Period 8
All students are expected to be present for their final exams each and every day. EVERY class will be meeting and the expectation is that all students are present for the entire period. The only classes that will not meet are Study Halls and Lunches.
THE ONLY EXCEPTION as per the Student/Parent Handbook:
Seniors who earn a 90% or better in all four marking periods within an academic class are exempt from taking that final exam unless it is required for CAP credit and is up to teacher discretion. (Note- Students must have an ‘A’ in each of the 4 marking periods in a course to be considered exempt) In this case, all marking periods will count for 25% of the overall final grade.
NO final exams will be given early!
As per the Student/Parent Handbook: Students must provide a doctor’s note in order to be eligible to make-up final exam for which they were not present.
In the event that your child is absent for any other reason and unable to attend the scheduled final exam, please reach out to your child's assistant principal and provide documentation of the absence. Should you not communicate with the assistant principal, the absence will be considered will be considered unexcused and result in a zero for the exam.
Teachers will be providing a review sheet to help students focus on the primary topics that will be covered on the cumulative test.
Exams account for 12% of the final grade with each marking period counting 22%. Please refer to page 10 of the Program of Studies for a full explanation of the calculations.
Should you have any questions on final exams, please reach out to your child's individual teacher, guidance counselor, assistant principal, or me.
All Chromebooks must be returned at the close of the school year. Seniors will be returning theirs on Wednesday June 15th at the Senior Picnic. All Freshmen - Juniors will return them after their final exam(s) on Thursday, June 16th. Juniors will return theirs to the PAC while Freshmen and Sophomores will return theirs to the Cafeteria. Mr. Guidotti's Update
There are several members of the Delran Track team that are still competing at this time. Last weekend was the Sectional Group 2 meet at Delsea Regional High School. 30 Bears competed on Friday, June 3rd, and 34 on Saturday, June 4th. Several students scored high and have qualified for the next round which is this Friday and Saturday at Franklin High School for the Group 2 championships. Good luck to the students who continue to move on in the postseason.
The Delran 1st Doubles Boys Tennis team of Haadi Khan and Michael Carnivale will be competing in the NJSIAA State Doubles tournament this Saturday at Veteran’s Park in Hamilton at 3:00 pm. Good luck boys, Delran is so proud of you both.
The Delran Baseball team defeated Collingswood 6-2 in the 1st round of the South Group 2 tournament. Unfortunately, the Bears were defeated in the 2nd round by a strong Manchester Township pitcher. The team ended their amazing season with a record of 18-6. The Bears have a lot to be proud of. They proved that they were a team in South Jersey that could compete with anyone.
